I have a Petzl Tikka plus since the past one year and I think that it pretty much sucks. The main problem is that the light spreads out too much and does not give a focused beam, which is very much required when you have to find a trail in the dark or abseil down a big wall. Though in terms of reliability and battery longivity it is great. My advice would be to check out Princton or some of the other Chinese brands which are much cheaper and quite reliable.
BTW the largest dealership of Petzl in india is in mumbai. If you want the details let me know and will mail it to you. |

Very good for battery life too. When I first got it, I fell asleep with it on, and was sure it would have drained the batteries - but even with very regular use it was over six months before they dimmed! |

Hi All,
I have been reading the posts in this forum. I would like to pass some information that I have gotten from some trekking forum/s.If you plan to use it till 5 degrees Celsius or so the below information does not matter. Get petzl xp plus and be happy ! For lower temperatures........ About batteries: For cold weather and higher elevations , lithium batteries are the only way to go currently. Other types of batteries lose anywhere from 20-50 % of their operating capacities because they cannot function well in cold weather. Now for information about the lamps themselves: petzl site warning: http://en.petzl.com/petzl/LampesNews?News=159 Article: http://www.outdoorsmagic.com/news/ar...98389328935310 Explanation: To qoute some one from one my favourite forums: The problem is that modern Lithium batteries produce more current that the theoretical maximum spec for AA's. Since the Petzl circuitry is unregulated, this overcurrent situation can cook your LED. Petzl says it's not their fault, since it's technically a non-standard battery causing the problem. Solution: Princeton Tec Quad is voltage regulated and so is safe to use with lithium batteries. Check these forums for more lamp info: http://www.candlepowerforums.com http://www.flashlightreviews.com Enjoy ! Last edited by rajnag : Jul 22nd, 2008 at 22:01. Reason: spelling |

Raj,
This definitely is very helpful information. Have had to resort to all sorts of cracy stunts to keep my battries warm in high altitudes. Will keep this point in mind when I buy a new head lamp |
