Peth Fort or Karnala Fort - This Sunday.
I want to do a trek this Sunday 1 Day only, along with my wife & cousins. I am confused between Peth Fort (Kotligad) & Karnala Fort. Require help from you Imers on the following points:-
1] Which fort is better in terms of Scenic beauty, no. of water falls on the way, difficulty wise.
2] Is it better to take a service of Guide for the same ? Will they be available on the spot, or will have to confirm in advance ?
3] Any idea on time taken for the trek ?
4] Any other info. you would like to give.
We plan to leave early Sunday Morning & come back by 10 in the night.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
Ronak.

karnala fort is b'utiful !
Hi !
Karnala Fort is definitely better. It will take u max 90 mins to drive down. There r plenty of waterfalls and wildlife to see as u climb up. It is at least 3-4 hours climb. You might need a guide which u can get near the foothills. If u r starting from Bombay by 6am u can complete the trek and be back by night.
Need any other details feel free to post again.

smande, Thanks for your reply. I will be using public transport. So please guide on how to reach using public transport (Train from VT / CST). Also specify if 3 - 4 hrs is for one way. Is it easy to get guides near the foothills & what approx. charge they take ? Is it safe to go with families ? Any other details which would be useful for us.

Is trekking to Karnala fort during Monsoons risky ?
i.e. are there chances of slipping.
Then I will consider Peth Fort. Will it be full of trekkers on Sunday ? I hate too much of crowd.
Please give your feedback.

There will be a lot of trekkers at peth as its really the best time to visit. But you can reach the plateau before peth and have a nice quite picnic as all the trekkers go to the top.
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living.
I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare dream of meeting your heart's longing.

Would it be better to use services of a guide ?
Where to contact for the guide ?
I have read somowhere that There is one hotel named Hotel Kotligad who arrange for guides ? Any idea about cost for the same ? Would really appreciate if your could answer the same.

Well you have to get down at karjat then take a rickshaw to kotilgad no hotels there . The route is a straight road up and down so no way to get lost .

Hi guys..i know this is a very old thread...i am posting a query anyway..
I was planning to go to Karnala Bird Sanctuary this Sunday...And I'll be going alone..
I want to know how safe it is for a girl to go to this place alone because i've read somewhere that there are incidents of loot reported.

The Karnala peak is in the shape of a thumb and it involves rock climbing. No one does that generally. Till the fort is a pretty straight forward trek of about 2 hours and you shouldn't have any problem.
