Parang La - Tso Moriri - Leh.......is doable in 9 days??
We are planning to trekking on Parang La - Tso Moriri - Leh. Is that doable in 9 days?

I have sketched a rough route...
journey on train/bus:
Kolkata to Delhi(1 day)+Delhi to Manali(1 Day)
1: Manali - Kibber(drive)
2: Kibber - Thaltak(trek)
3: Thaltak - Borochin/Dhakchu
4: Borochin/Dhakchu - Dak Kardom(via Parang La)
5: Dak Kardom - Humna
6: Humna - Norbu Sumdo
7: Norbu Sumdo - Kiangdom
8: Kiangdom - Karzok
9: Karzok - Leh
return journey:
Leh to Delhi(flight)+Delhi to Kolkata....2 days total
that means we need total 13 days.....i know it's a very tight schedule...as there is no rest days in between...but we HAVE TO DO THIS....BY ANY MEANS
before this trek we did trek to Tapovan last yr...so if you already did trekking in this route...then plzzzzzz suggest....

no one replied!!
anyway...we are commencing our journey on 16th July. But from my source I came to know that Manali is affected by heavy rainfall. Bus service from Delhi-Manali is TOTALLY disrupted as route is flooded/destroyed by mighty Beas river...
I don't know when it will be fixed/repaired....and I don't know whether it will be a wise decision to go to mountain in this kind of heavy rainfall...
I don't wanna cancel this trip.If we are unable to reach Manali...I don't know what I'll do. One thing for sure I'll go to mountain this time.
UP/DOWN to Delhi ticket is only booked. Everything else is totally volatile. That's why I am looking for a very good alternative trek route which could be completed within 9/10 trek days.
Please suggest....!!!

Hi,
I am sorry I am not that knowledgeable person to comment on this itinerary but it looks like Kibber onwards journey is not that affected due to monsoon ! If there is problem to reach Manali why dont you try to do it from Shimla > Kalpa > Tabo > Kaza > Kibber

#1 : Additional days are required that’s true but if you can accommodate extra day you’ld be able to do the trip.#2 : Manali > Kaza is 200+ KM. You are planning to travel in a single day and starting your trek on next day ! Well, cannot say it is impossible but hectic ! Road condition was not really good in last Sep (not sure about the current condition).
#3 : You need to cross Kunjum La which is a vital place – weather can play a major role here. So one buffer day splly. for this part of the journey is important.
Anyways, seems like you are dropping this trip. Chandratal is a nice place, pathofneo !

That’s great news !! Glad to know that the route is open and you guys can start for this lovely trip.
And good decision to have a rest day at Kibber. In worst case (on manali > Kibber route) you can manage a break either at Chhota Dhara or at Batal. There was one dhaba at Chhota dhara and 2-3 dhabas at Batal. BTW, there is another arrangement – a modern igloo (owner is PWD but maintained by local Dhaba) at Batal:

We stayed there for two days.
All the best and please do not forget to share your travel experience with us.
- Cheers.
Concerned about the rate of ascent. I did it a few years ago from a Rumtse start. The down to Kibber was bad, going up looked far worse. 10 hour day it was the down hill route...... Limited camping on thst day. I suspect you are going too far too fast, regardless of your stamina. Check carefully, no facilities there if things go wrong. My advice is dont, you do not have enough time
Thanks Captain Bruce for warning us...i also believe(from different sites/trek froums) that from Kibber to Dak Karzong is the tough part...we will be careful about that...
we are starting tomorrow...wish me luck!

I think you may be going up a bit too fast as well, if your not feeling well don't be afraid to take an extra day to rest and acclimatize on the kibber side, the Korzok side is flat and can be done in 3 days if you need to instead of your 4. Ideally an extra night in Kibber before you start would help as well. See how you feel when you get there, and if you start having symptoms like headaches and nausea don't go up further, rest until you feel better and if you don't get better head back down. The big problem is its a very steep ascent to the pass and then not much of a descent down to the next camp so if you get bad symptoms going over the pass there are no good options, either going back over the pass or 3 days at pretty much the same altitude, basically no where to go down to. One of the reasons I always strongly recommend to do it in the opposite direction if possible. But people do it on the same schedule you are doing so its certainly possible just be aware of the risks.
