Papers & permits reqd for Satopanth Tal

Hi all,

going thru the available threads and getting some info from the latest trekker in this route (supratim) I am a bit confused about exactly what permits and papers are required for satopanth taal trek. i am listing what supratim has told me...

1. "Medically fit to trek certificate" from a doctor within 15 days before starting the trek (hearing such thing from the first time)
2. Nandadevi Biosphere Reserve Entry Pass (how on earth satopanth can be in nandadevi biosphere???)
3. Satopanth Taal Trek Pass from SDM of Joshimath (can it be obtained from ITBP post at mana as others have suggested in the forum???)
4. Local Entry Pass from Mana (where can this be obtained???)

And Guide Hira Parmar from mana village 094115 35857 is not available on phone. can anyone give me number of any him or anyother guide in this region???

finally i want the contact of any reliable trekking agency in joshimath from whom we can hire stove-utensils & tents. please help on this issue.

Hi Babuchand,

If you notice my PM I have told there that these entry passes are only needed if you hire guide and porter from outside of mana. If you hire guide and porter from mana, you need nothing, not a single paper.

I asked in mana checkpost and they provided me these information. I don't know if all these papers are really needed or not, may be they were asking for those papers to force us for taking local guide and porter. Even they told that they would not allow guide and porter from Badrinath without papers.

Any way, I took 2 porters and 1 guide from Mana and I don't have to do any paper work. The Guide's name is Mannu Rawat (mob: 09412966171). He is a very good guide, have good knowledge about terrain and he guided tourists 7-8 times to Satopanth Taal. He have a grossery shop and he provided me stove & utensils without a rupee.

I contacted Mr. Hira Parmar before this trek. He has opened a agency in Joshimath and was asking for a package basis deal which will cost us 1450/- per day. I also have his mail (mail from Hira Parmar, can you believe that) and if you want I can forward it to your Gmail id you PM me previously.

You can visit http://satopanth.blogspot.com for my pics.

Happy Trekking.

Thumbs up

Guide took 500 per day and perters 250 per day. They provided me utensils and stove free of cost and one of the porter was porter-cum-cook, he cooked foods (khichdi, maggi, soupe, paratha etc.) for all of us. I had to provide food for them.
