This is for all the trekkers concerned. The First Indian Crossing of Panpatia glacier and Col to reach MadMaheswar from Badrinath (possibly the Mythological path of the single priest worshopping in both Badrinath & kedarnath Temple)is achieved on 8th June. We have done a total exploration of the lower & upper Panpatia Glacier and finally crossed the Panpatia Col. Hereby a New Trekking route is opened for the trekkers for all over the world.
The first crossing of Panpatia Col (Climbing route) was done by Martin Moran's team in 2000 May by climbing the icefall. But we found and named a new Col to reach the Upper Panpatia snowfield (Neve) instead of climbing the icefalls. We traced out a rocky route which is easy & could be done by novice trekkers too. It is named as Parvati Col after the nearby Parvati Peak. We didn't take any help of any Guide - HAP.

17th July a slideshow with press conference will reveal the details in Kolkata (Venue - Bangla Academy . Time 17:45)

The Team Members were :
Tapan pandit (53) - Leader
Mrs. Usha Pandit (42)- Trekker
Shankar Mondal (32)- Trekker
Biman Biswas (22) - Climbing Member
&
Debabrata Mukherjee (44) - Guide - Climbing Leader.
Eight Porters were used to help carrying camping gears & Food.

Any Question?? ask please...

Congratulations to you and your team for crossing Panpatia col.by a new route. I guess, press conference is due on July 17 (and not June 17 as stated in your post). I am awaiting the details of the new trekking route.

Thank You Sadanand. I lost count of my days in the last 6 weeks. (After Panpatia I went to Badrinath from Gongotri crossing Kalindi Pass & climbed Kalindi Peak too. Got back home only yesterday).

Of course it is on 17th July. It is not only only New route. It is the First trekking Route. Because the Route crossed By Mr. Moran's Friends is a Climbing route crossing the main ice-fall. Which is really needed Mountaineering Skill. Thanks once again.
Debabrata Mukherjee.

River crossing between Arwa Tal and Ghastoli

Hi Deba,

I am leaving from Gangotri for kalindi pass on 27th August.
I have been told that there is a huge volume of water and a serious river crossing to be done between Arwa Tal and Ghastoli?

How are things actually.? Does that needs to be crossed very early in the morning?

Unhappy You should leave very early & If it rains the night before .. Pray to God

There are Two serious river crossing before Arwa Tal from Rajparao. one is 10 metres. not so deep (not crossing knee) at 09:00 hours. But the Arwa River (20 mtrs width)was Thigh Deep for a 5'11"" person with heavy current at around 10:30. And it was clear weather. As you are going to cross it on 5th / 6th of september. thepossibility of rain swelling the river is there. So be careful. I was crossing the river taking the injured member (51 kgs)on my shoulder (Fireman Lift). that 20 mtrs. stretch felt like I am running up the Salt Lake Stadium Kolkata's Gallery all the way (yes all the three tiers) carrying that load. But as we took so little time to reach Arwa Tal we continued to Ghastoli the same day not knowing that we have to cross some 14 other streams coming down from the side mountains. and at least 8 times more to undo & redo our shoes. However after the 2nd one I changed to my strap slippers. and continued walking the next 14 kms with that like porters doing.

Congratulations !!

Did your route descend to Maindagalla Tal?

I've already said this on another thread, but this is the relevant one... wish i could be there for your slide show... or maybe i can persuade some Mumbai club to invite you ...

Good going !! Can you possibly post a route-map scanned image here?

Thumbs up Thanks

I will send the Photo CD to one Mumbai young trekker who was with me in the next one (Kalindi Khal) you might see the photos from him
and I will put them in some Album to see in the net. I will try to show you the route. may be some copy of google earth marked route.
Yes we descended to maindagalla Tal & Kachni Khal in the end to madmaheswar.
But the route we found will open up a new High altitude trek route for the Avid-trekkers like you. a little tough rocky (65-70 degree)and snow (crevasse strewn) trek.

guidedeba,
Since you have found new and the first trekking route to cross Panpatia col, I suggest that you may formally report this to Indian Mountaineering Foundation for their record if not already done so.
