Hi
I am new here Can anyone recommend a good place to go trekking for a novice in March or April? I will be based in Delhi so I imagine somewhere in Himachal Pradesh would be ideal. Thanks ![]() |

Hi,
Be ready for lot's of snow while trekking during Mar/ Apr. For pindari glacier trek find out from KMVN about the facilities during Mar/ Apr.Delay your plan to May if you are going trekking first time. |

Hi! I would recommend the Dodital trek - however don't cross the Darwa pass. You can hike up to the pass to get great views around. This should give you a 'feel' of treks.
You can find the route by searching on Google. (I am too lazy to look up!) All the best! |

hi again...yeah, sorry wasn't thinking too clearly...march pretty much definately too early for this trek. You might get away with it in april but depends very much on the weather and, as we know, the weather's not as predictable as it once was.
(though it is at last a bit more like december should be here in wales!) |

The Pindari Glacier trek is a good, fairly easy one. I did it one April, years ago and it was still snowbound at the end of April. Could only go as far as Dwali. But still had a great time and saw some awesome scenery.
There's Government Rest Houses all along the way and little restaurant's where you can get simple food. Not sure if the rest houses will be open in March though. www.kmvn.org is the Government site about that area. |

Topact, as many have suggested Mar/Apr will be a good weather but many higher places will be snowbound. You can restrict yourself to lower altitude places - as mountaingirl has suggested, dodital may be a good choice. State of Uttaranchal (erstwhile Uttar Pradesh) has a lot many treks of diff grades. You can delay your plan upto May or if you have more time, visit other Northern areas first and then when snow starts melting, move up. I am in neighbouring state (Uttar Pradesh) and offer you some suggestions as I have been to some of these places.

yes-DODITAL and HARKIDUN can be done in APRIL. But I would reccomend PINDARI GLACIER region....even you may not be able to reach GLACIER but you can make KHATI as base and have some exploration on SUNDERDUNGA side also.
You can go to TRIUND...you can also reach PARVATI VALLEY and even explore SOLANG VALLEY... Lot of options...check out what suits you !! |
