Not A Chance In...india..buddy!!
Hey guys I'm feeling a little down becouse I'm not hearing the news I so wished for(thats life). I'll try again but I'm prepared for the worst so don't hesitate to be brutily honest...
I love to simply sleep in a tent under the stars, a good distance from civilization(2or3 miles), wake up with the sun, to birdwatch nice and early, take a long quite walk, take some photos, and read a little then pass out under a tree for an hour. Maybe in India and Sri Lanka that may sound ludicrous but will they allow me to do that anywhere? -as ludicrous as it may sound! I'll be on a moto in south India(Kerala,Karnataka,Tamil Nadu) from Jan 5th till Jan 30th. I'll then be another moto in Sri Lanka from Feb 2nd till Feb 23rd. I hope I don't sound to sarcastic. Thanks, however the outcome- Bey P.S. just a couple a nights would worth it. ![]() |

I camped out on the banks of the Ganges for 2 nights between Allahabad and Varanasi and 1 night in the desert near Pushkar with a camel safari. I expect, if you have your own tent, you could camp out in many remote places.

I think the common reasons why camping isn't very popular are how damn cheap lodging is and security. It's very possible to camp, but usually in somewhat designated places like on a trek and such. Also, lots of poop and people around, so ya never know what will turn up, but Indians are usually a curious lot, so be prepared for lots of uninvited guests!

Lots of people sleep out under the stars in India, The difference is they don't call it camping & don't have a tent,,,,,,,,,,,
OK this is many moons ago but in goa you used to only have to pick a group of palm trees someplace, this soon became your spot, your base & if you stayed long enough your home, people respected that place & knew thats where you lived. You can still do it now in goa if you get out of the holiday areas. Almost all places in India you can still live like that, but you must observe your environment, culture & the people around you. If you adapt to a little sardhu / nomadic way of life & respect the basics then you would be welcome to stay a night or two at some temple or shrine or even under the boughs of a Banyan Tree some place,,,,,,,,,, Don't know about the motorbike though, that puts you in a different league, although isn't there was/is a f'amous sardhu'/baba who rides around the foothills on a Harley Davidson,,,,,,,,,,, Happy Travelling |
