He's/they's got a point. While annoying to be (possibly) fooled, really, no harm was done. And, even if it's a matter of split personality (oh wouldn't that have been a grand explanation! "I actually AM three persons..."), what's so wrong with playing a little devil's advocate? Am I the only one whose at least considered taking on a second personality so that I could say the things that my "true" persona wouldn't/couldn't say? Point being, giving them the benefit of the doubt isn't going to do too much harm, and they've already been "outted" and brought under admin's scrutiny--just enough "punishment," I would think.

As for telling where one lives, maybe for the guys it's not such a big deal, but others of us are more wary about giving out any personal information without being very careful to screen it. considering some of the issues in the last couple weeks with another poster, I would think posting where one is from wouldn't be such a requisite, honesty with the forum notwithstanding.

Just my two rupees...

As for the original question, perhaps he's right. Is it really worth it? How many times have we talked about using people as a tourist site? And risking dying to climb a mountain, and then come back down?? As Nick said with sailing, all of us have some sort of escape. Many many things are pointless--that is, they have a very personal purpose but other than that, aren't particularly utilitarian. I am somewhat utilitarian myself, so can understand the desire to trek from one place to another rather than from bottom to top to come back down again... Of course, I get the happy excuse of calling it research, too.

Who was the Greek god who lost his strength if he didn't touch the earth? I am like that, I think. Many of us here probably are. But everyone has their own "source" which those who can't relate will not get.

Risking ones life to reach the highest mountin tops is just as irrationall and stupid as spending all the money in the world to try and land on the moon.

Its all about impressing girls with putting a flag somwhere where, and out of reach.

It´s saying: "Look at me!, Look at me!"

Simmillar to the Rat Race of Money and "Power". The one with the Most stuff/money/gadgets etc when he/she dies wins! Hurry! Hurry!

Most people do give their location.

I can't understand why a person will not give their location, you didn't have to say Mumbai, you could have said India, if you live in India your location is relevant in EVERY reply on an INDIA travel forum.

I revealed your location because it was relevant to the point I was making.

You tried to start a new thread on the same subject with your main point being that someone had accused you of having no education, yet the 'no education' comment had been typed on the same computer that you use, wake-up mate, that kind of thing will always send alarm bells ringing.

I did say, and I quote -But, no harm done., I'm not banning you or your 'brothers', I don't think you had any bad intentions, but I do feel that others had a right to know.

When you've been on this website long enough you will see that we try to look after our members interests, this takes a lot of moderation, and we don't always get it right, but we try.

If you are 3 brothers, other members now know, and they know you live in Mumbai, so there is no great harm done, enjoy the website.
-----------------------------------------

To other members.

I will reply about 'slow down' and members having more than one ID tomorrow.

Like Steven said: "No great harm done - enjoy the website".

This really has turned into a weird thread! However bizzare it may be - I'm glad that at least it hasnt got abusive or hurtful.

Chris. (or AM I!? )

'Slow down', I think I used the wrong words, if we feel it necessary, we prevent a member from posting, say for example that we suspect they have hidden links to a travel agent, we just prevent them from posting whilst we investigate, they can still access the site, but they can't reply to any threads, the alternative would be to ban them.

Having more than one ID.

In the early days of indiamike.com I suspect that many members had more than one username, but these were never investigated because it was all a bit of fun and no member was trying to fool other members.

I remember Veerapan and the fun we had with that ID, I still don't know what member created the username, there was never a need to look into it, it was just harmless fun.

However, as the site has grown, things get more complicated, more new members are trying their luck, just this morning I banned a travel agent, he had set up another username to pretend to be a Canadian tourist who strongly recommended the services of the same travel agent.

This kind of thing happens all the time, so now we do some basic checks on a large percentage of new members, but most of the time they give themselves away with stupid posts.

I started a new ID a few weeks ago (Charlene DD), the intention was to see what private messages this member received (after a tip-off), I'm very pleased to report that this new member never received any un-solicited messages.
