I love strolling; I can do it for hours.

Like rowing; I can do that for hours (or could have done once ) on a gentle, pottering basis (used to do Richmond -> Kindston-on-Thames & back regularly) but I'd never do any of that punishing sport stuff. The sporty stuff builds real muscle, but the pottering used to keep me fit and happy

Agni: you have an ignore list here? I'm surprised that there any currently active members you'd want to ignore. <thinks...> but I guess you'll noit see this post

Quality Question ~ Quality Answer

Aristocat, as you can see most of us are not capable of answering terribly well, maybe not to your satisfaction anyway.

However I would add that your originating question was lacking somewhat and if it had of been better qualified as in some of your response the results may have been better and we would not have been launching into a song and dance. A quality question will result in a quality answer.

Now my perspective as a light weight trekker. Why do I enjoy trekking, in part for the exercise, in part for the sense of adventure, the scenery, finding space between you and you. The rest; stopping for a rest at a spot that is so different from what one normally experiences. Finding little things like plants, fresh water, rock formations, stunted trees and seeing wildlife so free that ones heart soars with the eagle in flight. Carrying a heavy pack is not part of it, that is hard work but carrying your own survival on your back, being self sufficient and essentially alone in the wilderness is an ancient memory that comes to the surface occasionally. It is also about testing ones self, knowing that in a given situation you would have certain skills and resources to cope, to survive and maybe be of assistance to others.

Why did the chicken climb the mountain, as with crossing roads, it wanted to see what was on the other side. Sometimes we have a desire for knowledge, to see or know for ourselves, we have the need to experience some magic, natures magic; not just sitting at the beach on the side of a busy highway but somewhere really different, raw and somewhere that we have to work at in order to experience it. Deep meditation is similar, hard work more so than carrying a heavy pack up a mountain, but there can be similarities, momentary in the case of worldly trekking and sustained in the meditation.

An couple of experiences that I had once while sailing. I was on a large sailing training ship, the 'Spirit of Adventure' in New Zealand and during heavy seas some opportunities arose, one was to be up on the crows nest while everything was pounding below with spray everywhere and another to be sitting out on the tip of the bow spit and looking back and seeing a big wave hitting the bow of the ship and me being on this stick sitting above the ocean alone.

The point is that to have experiences or adventures, one has to place ones self in a situation where they can be experienced. A little madness helps.

You might (and will) feel verry Alive at the moment but its mearly a Adrenaline rush, a buzz. A good impermanent feeling.

Soldiers sometimes get that "bulletproof feeling". There is a movie called Fearless about it starring jeff bridges...

On the subject of trolling with selfmade trekkers.
I do think its healthy to have perspective on things, and beeing able to see and debate both sides of the coin. Or we will only understand half of things.

it is odd that such an obvious troll would draw 80 responses -- especially as most (apart from the troller) don't really seem to be all that interested in trekking.

Ah well, it's provoked some lively discussion!

Welcome along Charlene DD (actually I should Olright!), nice to have a fellow Essex person on here!

No jokes anyone, I don't own any Burburry at all!
Or a used car dealership, I don't go nightclubbing, I haven't got a girlfriend called Tracey, I don't wear large gold chains, or say sarf instead of south.
I do call people geezer occasionally though.

Three brothers, each an individual in his own right, living together and sharing a computer, thereby the DNS, and with their own respective IM handles, can by no stretch of the imagination be called the “same person”. My brothers were rather dismayed, but not miserable, when their respective handles were disabled without as much as a by your leave. Being a geek for more than twenty years, I knew exactly what was happening but chose not to react. One of my brothers is an accomplished trekker and climber with several climbs, including Mt. Everest, to his credit. And we always ask him why, but got no convincing reply until he suggested I put it up on this forum to see if I got an answer. Thereafter we each enjoyed replying to each other on this forum always waiting to see what the other wrote. We could have done so verbally at home, but it was more fun in the IM community, with various interesting posts. Until the wrong conclusions were drawn about we three being the same person. If I were pm’ed I would have explained but wasn’t. And although we three do tend to disagree on certain matters, we do agree on one thing. That some harm has been done. We have been held guilty without trial.

I dont know if its two brothers or three brothers or Seven Brides for Seven brothers., ehh whatever. I dont care. But its given me a sour taste in my mouth. I feel duped and rightly so because I think my apology was the SINCEREST apology made ever on a public forum on the Internet....what a waste, there are plenty of deserving folks who could use a "I'm sorry"..and I wasted it here..on these person(s). One "brother" says the other lacks an education and apologies for it. I of course being the sweetheart that I am follow suit with my apology. What kind of games are you trying to play? You must be really bored in your real life.. Ehh..yeck..I learned my lesson for sure. You people/person are on my ignore list for being so deceitful. Tata...

The word is not crass....its cheat...

As we used to say in English primary schools, 'Oh Jimmy Hill, itchy beard, chinny reckon'.
That means no, I don't believe it, in adult language.

I still reckon that trolls are trouble, vegetarian or not and Gandalf would have stuck a rod up his backside and got his eyes shining brighter than the Eye of Mordor.

I believe it. But then I'm not in cynical mode today and I just expect people to be OK until proved otherwise. So I'm happy to see the brothers along, with their familly contraversy!

As for the Seven Brides... anyine ever thought about that story? Abduction and rape! and they made a musical out of it! (well, ok, maybe not rape, but...)

...but that wood-chopping scene is one of the best song-and-dance numbers on filme
