No sense!

I entirely agree about trecking.

...But I go sailing, which many treckers would probably consider pure torture

Maybe Aristocat will be along to tell us what he does enjoy. Or, maybe as his location is 'Disneyland' he doesn't actually exist...

There is a tune running through my head which goes like "Climb every mountain, ford every stream, follow every rainbow, till you find your dream ........"

His location says Disneyworld, not Disneyland. They're 2500 miles apart. Please. Have some respect for this native southern Californian and do not confuse the two!

Feeding Trolls, get out the battle axes, where are the Elfin Lords, the warriors of the Dwarf, the Riders from Gondor, the Hobbits and Gandalf the White. We ride, we hunt and climb that mountain, break down the gates of Mordor and the Trolls and the Black Lord shall be no more.

A troll for a pet, we will need a bridge for him to hide under then have to feed him, but they eat yucky things, if he turns Veg then ok but no funny business or he goes.

i have never been associated with such activities but, whenever i have seen a mountain i have been taken in by its sheer beauty, i have wanted to see it from closer quarters. what better way of doing that than by trekking with a knapsack on your shoulders, the sack contains whatever you may require for a stay of one month.

modern day trekkers have the advantage of mobile phones to keep in touch with the outside world.

but, who would want to do that when he will be so absorbed in watching wild flowers, exotic birds and, once in a while, come across a hungry fox or cross the path of a snake that cooly slithers away into the undergrowth?

I have to say that I also tend to agree with Aristocrat. It's not the hiking and climbing I object to, but carrying everything you will need along the way is not in the least appealing. That's what pack animals are for!

That being said, I must admit that I have, against my better judgement, been talked into doing a trek. And even worse, I have agreed to climb a fairly large mountain! Carrying all food and camping gear!! And no pack animals!!!

I hope to report back at a later date!!

Amyl, that was a song sung by Julie Andrews in a movie donkeys years back about the Von Trapp family in Austria but I can't remember the name of the movie.

Well there we are 40 years ago and I found the script almost on the net.
Sound of Music 1965

Climb ev'ry mountain, search high and low
Follow ev'ry byway, every path you know
Climb ev'ry mountain, ford every stream
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream
A dream that will need all the love you can give
Every day of your life for as long as you live...

... that's all folks

Carrying a pack or not, I can't think of anything better than rising early on a cold morning, and sitting (or standing) with a nice cup of tea watching the first rays of the sun hitting the top of an enormous mountain or beautiful valley.
Almost as wonderful as that is the sound, not an engine starting or a door slamming, just your own breathing, maybe a bird calling and the sound of a river flowing.

There are few places on Earth where we can find real peace; trekking in the mountains is one such place...
