No sense!

I have always failed to understand what possible pleasure one can get in lugging a heavy backpack on one's back and tramping up steep paths, risking life and limb, doing what is called "trekking". There was an era when one had no choice in getting from 'A' to 'B' except to use one's own two feet but to still continue doing so in today's age for the sake of "enjoyment" is nothing short of baffling. And to take things further, you have those who feel the need to reach some of the highest points on earth, risking their very lives and spending small fortunes in the bargain, doing what is called "mountaineering". Makes no sense.

For some intuitive reason I am not surprised that you don't understand mountaineerimg and trekking.

Please note that this website wishes to encourage inclusion and cross cultural understanding. It is simply not necessary to make negative comments here.

To add on to what Rab said, this seems a rather surprising first post/thread.

perhaps aristocat is more into an Aristocratic mode of seeing places.....on a horse, chariot or a "doli" carried by four ppl on their shoulders.....like a King.

dude!! just get out and hit the earth and u will realize how so very rejuvenating and fruitful these adventure-packed outings are.

proabably some matured IMers can put in some thoughtful feedback on what u say is senseless.

keep reading...u will get loads of replies i suppose.

Mainly becouse if Goliath can't be taken to the mountain, then take mountain to the Goliath

Sure agree, no one need to carry any luggage to the top that can be better left at the foothill.....

Cool

It's like what Louis Armstrong said about jazz: "if I have to explain, you wouldn't understand...."

maybe it is a trollish post, but i am one of those people who would not enjoy trekking with weight strapped to my back, nor be willing to risk life and limb to do it. I get a sore back just looking at someone with a backpack, and i don't have a ton of physical stamina. I love hiking about, but i leave the trekking for others.

I just watched "Touching the Void" and was awed by the landscape of the mountains, but in pain watching the two trekkers climbing them.

That's just me, though i admire those who do it. It must be an extraordinary feeling to reach the top of a mountain. I know it is for me when I reach the top of a hill.

Trekking is something I probably would not enjoy as well, but I keep my comments to myself. There are plenty of things that I observe about how other travellers go to India. For example, I dont comprehend why some insist on spending so little and then come back complaining about India...as someone of indian origin it makes me mad..I have seen it here and I have seen it in real life. Its like they assume that since India is a poorer nation, they should be getting cheap deals and assume that there are no richer people in India and if the richer people do exist they shouldnt enjoy their wealth... But you know when I read something like that, I keep my comments to myself. My indiamike experience is worth more to me than trying to straighten out some people. Some of these same people might go as far as saying that my experience in india isnt "Real"...

However crass the original Poster was, I must give him the benefit of the doubt. It certainly is an odd first post. He must have been angry at trekkers or something and took it out here? lol...Well still thats no excuse on his part...

I think Everyone, with exception of few ole wise ones, say things in certain posts that come very close to being troll like. A troll is something that some people find offensive right? Well dont be so sure to think every post of yours, didnt offend someone out there. The offended might have just remained quiet like I always do, just to keep the sanity and to enjoy their Indiamike experience so you may never know. Just giving a different perspective on it. Thanks.

No, a troll is provocative post where the only purpose of the post is to cause a lot of replies.
