Seems like I'm already too late...anyways " All the best for course! " Do write about your experience once you back from the course .

Hi,
I attended NIM BMC 202 batch..It was a great experience, but weather was not that good. We were brought down without height gain. Also we did only load ferry to ABC rather than staying there.
Still Felt that something was achieved. The only thing bothered me was the hurriness shown by instructors. Some instructors were not caring.. I remember the old days where our teachers looked like devil rather than friends.
Food was ok type (One can't expect tastier food at any mess & that too on high altitude). We even got mangoes at base camp.
Training: Felt that instructors are in a hurry to complete the course.
Trekking: Hurried a bit for walking, but it was ok. They already warn you to practice with 15-20kg load. Many ignore it & pay for it at the time of trekking.
Training Area: Rock Climbing is ok.
As the glacier is melting, ice, snow areas are getting farther away from base camp. This makes almost 1-1.5 hr one way walk to reach training area (with snow shoes over moren).
Accommodation: Good
Equipment: Overall good. Check the equipments after they issue them & before moving to mountains.
Sleeping bag: See chain
Feather jacket: Wear for couple of times. Check chain and also see whether feathers are not sticking to your cloths one you remove it.
Snow Shoes: Very much important to check. Wear them & walk for 15-20 mins. See they are not biting. Lot of ppl including me had problems of biting near ankle. I did all ice craft & snow craft by loosening inner & outer. It was not easy as one can't walk/climb properly with loose shoes.
Sack: You get feel after 3-4 days & can be changed. All sacks have problem of loosening of straps. Also small height ppl may experience problem due to long length (esp. torso length) of sack. More wt. goes on shoulders rather than hip. No escape from both problems. You need to find out your own way (Put knot on shoulder staps, Tighten hip belt more etc..)
Instructor quality: Good.

Its always good that you learn some artificial wall climbing & rock climbing before you go. Obviously don't tell that you know it (instructors never like that thing). Tell that this is the 1st time I am doing climbing/rappling.
This is imp as in mountains, we are no where to faujy (military) or local people. They have good stamina & used to mountains. We get exhausted there & interest level goes down a bit. They can take more weight & walk faster than us (at that altitude). When compared, we don't get enough points. So try to impress instructor in rockcraft, so that mutual interest (your in instructor & vice-a-versa) increases for sharing knowledge.

Hope this will help.

:-Anand

There are few instructors in NIM who can teach very well in English too...make sure you get in their rope ...otherwise your rope members can help you to understand what they're teaching. Good luck for the course !

Here are some google earth placemarks I saved on my GPS-phone marking the training sites and camp sites we went to, during the basic mountaineering course:
