| Newbie trek to Triund - HELP! I will be reaching Mcllo on Dec 25, and plan to trek to Triund on Dec 26 or 27 with my friend and our wives. We will be staying in Mcllo, and plan to start our trip early morning. I have following questions: 1. How tough is it? 2. What should be our path to trek, from Hotel Cafe House? 3. What , if any, trekking gear and food should we carry? 4. We will need a trekking guide. Can someone please suggest a good one? |

| 1. The trek is quite simple. The last part of the trek (2km or so) are a bit strenuous but not technically difficult. Take it slow and easy. If you leave at 6.30am or so, you should get to Triund by 11.30am easily unless you take it really slow. 2. Don't know where your hotel is but just ask anyone and they can point out the path to you. You have to go towards and past Dharamkot. Just ask for directions at your hotel. The initial part of the trek is motorable (I was able to drive past Dharamkot though I did not go much further in my most recent trip there). 3. Carry some water and munchies. I understand that there are a couple of tea shops on the way, as well as at Triund (they did not exist when I went a while ago). Ask the locals if the teashops are open in the winter. If not, you will have to carry whatever you need to eat/drink for the day (assuming this is a day trip). The Chowkidar at the rest house in Triund used to be able to provide tea and some food. It will be cold so bundle up. Normal walking shoes should be fine though I would go for waterproof walking shoes just in case. (4)You don't really need a guide to go to Triund. If you really need one, your hotel may be able to recommend someone. There are also a couple of trek/tourist shops in the market that may be able to provide a guide. But really, the chances of getting lost on that trail are minimal. Quote:

| I agree with Gibbresh. I went there few years back, sometime around end-Oct. It is very difficult to get lost. But from your note it is not very clear whether you are planning to stay overnight or not. Since you have ladies in your team, I have some concern on coming back the same day. When I went, there was only one small forest rest house-- just two rooms, no toilets or water. You need to take permission to stay there. |

| Gibberish has provided good details... And really you do not need a guide, probably a porter if you plan to stay overnight and need to carry tents etc. If you haven't trekked before then ensure plenty of water for everyone... I went this Oct, and it was pretty cold at Triund, so Dec end is going to be very very cold..!! but that should be fun.. ![]()

| did you guys go for a trek to Triund ? I went on 26th Dec, 2008 and enjoyed it. It was not snowing on top and was a great view although I could not go further to Snowpoint due to lack of time. Cheers! |
