Avid Trekker, we are more enthuasiastic after receiving your encouragement. we are now making an itineary for the KK parikrama. The fact that coming down to chitkul straight is the better option is also clear and we will certainly consider this.
Is getting a dependable porter /guide with prior arrangement any necessary or we can contact whom we come across when we are there?
Also would like to ask- we have a 3 man tent, so we would be in need for another 2 man at least- we can get some from Kolkata from where our 3rd member of the team is; but are any gears available from Peo etc .. that would save us carrying less luggage on our way up to kinnaur from kolkata

Gear in Peo

Nowadays you do get some sort of gear in Peo.

The market is very primitive compared to Manali. For a larger group I would source from Manali. For three people, you can take a risk at Peo. Porters will also require tents. The porter will guide you to the tent hiring agency... for just one tent you can manage it in Peo.

Get some official paper from Peo DM office stating that "permit not reqd". There is a tussle between Army chaps and DM office. Govt says that Permit not reqd, but Army says that it is required.

All the best and take care.

Thumbs down Great Journey

I just entered this site today only to study for my coming July / August's Trek & saw this thread. & It's really amazing to see more me-like people are trying there. So, I shall try to share few of my experiences over here again (though I wrote early) -

1) People need to stay at Kalpa or Peo for some time (2-3 days) just to get accustomed with people & places prior to go for trekking. Let's try to reach as fast as possible here & mapping the places from here.

2) It's always better to carry our own basic amenities - like tent, mat, sack, sleeping bag etc. Otherwise, you can hire these from TIC, Peo. Pancharas Travel is associated with TIC & Mr. Sanjeev Negi of PT is a very competent & professional one. Meet him to resolve the bottle-necks.

3) Keep some unique & official ID. Meet TIC in Peo, they will guide you to DM's office for the arrangement of necessary Permit, if it's required now.

4) Just remember one thing - when you are in Lalanti & staying the night there - means you are going to Charang La next morning - staying the night in Base Camp, crossing the Pass on another morning & coming down to Chitkul on the same day. & Believe me, once you are in Base Camp, you can come down to Chitkul crossing the Charang La on next day. Relax & enjoy - just watch on weather.

5) In Janmasthami, as I heard, probably you can only need the porters. Villagers would be your co-travelers & they can help you.

Pijush

Dear Avid --> Can you suggest me a 10-12 days Trek for my 4-member family team in July / August this year considering the raining this time !! If possible, give me 3-4 plans.

Thanks,

Pijush

Open a separate thread with appropriate title. I'll answer on it. [It'll get lost here ]

If you want options in Ladakh or Spiti, no rain there most of the time coz its in the rain shadow region.

Pijush, what in heaven's name is a TIC ??

Arrow Contacts for KK Parikrama

Sorry to hold you. I would request you to please go through my earlier Thread on KK. I hope, all the necessary informations are posted there. Anyway, try to reach in Peo or Kalpa early - may be 2-3 days before your trek. I am sure you can avail good Guide & Porters there. Meet the staffs in TIC, Peo. When are you planning your Trek there?

For me, still I am searching for a moderate place to trek with my family - of course in HP. Hope I could make it. I tried to attach few of my snaps, just to share my experiences there with you.
