You have answered your own Q

This excellent train is around two to six hours late most days.

I don't have enemies, otherwise it'd be a very very useful train to recommend

Hey, my job is to provide people ALL the info I have (positive AND negative)- I don't decide for others whether they'll be miserable or not. I presume andre is over 18 and therefore mature enuff to decide for himself.
In any case, unless flying, this train is as good as training it to Delhi, train to Dehradun, bus to Uki, or worse - bus to Rksh and another to Uki. Time-wise u certainly don't lose out, in fact the only bummer is that it's 2nd class only.

I don't have enemies either, but I can think of worse - putting them on a train to Dimapur and telling them it goes to Haridwar!

IMF permission not required to climb peaks for Indian citizens.

IMF rules-

6) Qualification for Leaders and Deputy Leaders

a) Advance Mountaineering Course with "A" grading from a recognised Mountaineering Institute; and

b) Participation in or at least two well-organised expeditions to peaks of above 6,500 metres, with climbs to a height of at least 6000 metres.

7) Qualification for members:

a) Minimum Basic Mountaineering Course for the participant from a recognised Mountaineering Institute, but 1/3rd members of the expedition should have done advance Mountaineering Course.

b) 25% of the participants should have done at least once well-organised expedition to a peak of and above 6000 metres.

www.indmount.org
Has anyone ever questioned why IMF permission is required to climb a peak. I know of so many mountaineers who dont bother to inform IMF that they are attempting a peak. They have gone, climbed and come back and legally nobody can stop them from doing it.

IMF was formed basically to help regulate the field of mountaineering especially for foreigners. They are no better than any Indian govt office. And I dont see them doing anything good for the field of mountaineering.

Any Indian citizen can go and climb a peak without IMF permission unless it comes in the inner line area where you have to take a permit from the local magistrate to travel in the area. Here too you are taking IMF permission so that you can prove to the local magistrate why you are in the area. Else that too would not be required.

The other main reason why people take IMF permission is to take paid leave from office when they are on the expedition.

Hello, Im not sure if they have a specific course timeline for women only. The most I recollect from my friends who have done it mentioned they had a joint batch of boys and girls from all over the country. Best time ideally is during April - May when schools get closed. Also during this time Rothang Pass is open for trek as the snow begins melting and quite approachable. You begin with meditation and fitness, then class room coaching and last 4 - 5 days is only trekking to Rohtang and nearby peaks.

Thnx for ur reply bt as far I know they organize the basic course separately for girls and boys, may be they do this at the same time. And as the duration of the course is 28days...I'm really confused about the time they start their session.

NIM has separate Basic and Advance Mountaineering courses for ladies, usually during the pre-monsoon season. As far as I know, the Basic course for ladies in 2008 has been scheduled from 24th May to 20th June.

Question Bmc - Nim

Hi all... new to this forum...

Am planning to take up BMC from NIM later this year - sep/oct batch. Am currently in UK but plan to apply sometime in March or April once I am back in India. Just wanted to know if that would be too late? or is it already too late ?? The website said only 50 seats... hence the question.

Apply as soon as possible....I already done this course ( BMC -191 batch ) yes there are limited no. of seats & most of them are reserved for defense people (ITBP,Army,Navy,Air-force,NCC) as this institute run by ministry of defense, so this leaves very few seats for private candidates & being primer institute in mountaineering there is quite rush to get in here ..so apply as quickly as possible ... better ask them over phone if seats are vacant or not ...so that you can apply accordingly.
You can check my NIM snaps a @ http://protrek.multiply.com
