Need help to plan my trip in Aug '07

Hi

I am planning to travel to Uttaranchal and Himachal in Aug '07 for a period of one month (flexible). I would like to know if anyone has done a similar trip trying to cover as much as they can and making it memorable and meaningful. I don't want it to be hectic. Want to include some good treks and some time for bonding with mother nature.

My budget is medium and planning to travel solo. Will need help with the following:

1. Places must see
2. Best routing to cover as much as i can in both states
3. do's and don'ts
4. contacts who can arrange for me to patch up with existing treks
5. safety measures / precautions
6. budget

I want this trip to be both rejuvenating and challenging and yes a trip to remember for a lifetime

Waiting for all your inputs and thanks in advance.

Appreciate your help.

Hi,
It seems you want to travel by vehicle across Uttrakhand and Himachal and so some trekking also. You plan to do quite a bit to do in the two states during the rains. If you get stuck in some road blocks due to land slides you will waste time. If you can shift the timing, move during Sep. As for the treks go for one day treks as bigger ones will require much planning.
Go for Char dhams in Garhwal.
Nanital, Ranikhet, Almora, Binsir, Kusani,Myunsari etc in Kumaon.
Shimla, Kulu, Manali, Dharamsala, Chamba in Himachal.
If you really want to enjoy choose one at a time.
Budget depends upon you and how you want to move around.

Sunit.. take VSKS's advice.. its about quality when you travel not quantity.. let it sink in... one place at a time.. 15 days of bliss on a trek.. and you will surely remember it for life. DONT rush it, its not worth it.
