NandaDevi in March

We are a group of 4. We are planning to go on a trek to Nandadevi in the month of march 2006. We are aiming for a 6-7 days trek.

I have browsed the posts here, but nonne of them has said anything about trekking in the month of March.

I would like to know, whether it is possible in the month of march.
Will there be snowfall during that time of the year?
How can you arrange for permits with the Forest Department in advance?
The best route from Delhi and how long it takes?

I will be very thankful for any help.

In March, You won't be able to cross Kuari Pass unless you are very experienced and welequipped

ThankYou TREKorDIE for your valuable advise.

We have only March at our disposition. If this is not possible, could you suggest some other treks that we could do in 6 to 8 days.

We are looking for high altitude treks, where snow is present and the scenery breathtaking enough to justify our long trip from the southern tip of India to the north. Anywhere in the Himalayan region is good.

We are not well expeerienced in doing difficult treks, but we have the passion for them.

Has anyone done the Annapoorna base camp trek. If yes please can you give an account of how good it is.

I hear it is the most popular trek in Nepal. But can it be completed in 8 days?

hi guys,

same here. even our final course gets over in feb-end / march and will be free for 2 months after that (march + april) ..... yippeee
so suggest some good places. i was thinking of visiting the best places in the himalayas from east to west....

here is what i was thinking of...

1). manali leh road and then pangong-tso and dras, kargil.
2). manirang pass in HP where the jumc team just went
3). roopkund and some areas in the nada devi sanctuary
4). mt. everest base camp (if possible)
5). lhasa via kathmandu and then namche barwa area (if possible)
6). kanchenjunga base camp
7). some good places in arunanchal like twang n bomdila

i know it's a long list and definitely not possible to visit all these places. but i wanna follow the process of first short listing the best treks and then selecting from them based on weather, time and other factors. if you have any other good option that i have missed, please tell me.

remember, i am looking for the best in terms of beauty, views, a bit of snow (in the area where u trek ... wanna build a snowman ). so pls help me out.

regards

Tried to do the annapurna base camp trek in April,1991, but only made it as far as Chhomrong as there was an avalanche that prevented me from continueing.

If your in average shape they say it's supposed tp take 6 days to reach!

I'm not sure how many to get back.

Sounds like you don't have enough time.

Angry

What a predicament.

THis will be our only chance to go on a trek trip in 2006, and we want to make the most of it.

Come on buddies, please please tell me some beautiful regions in the Himalayas which can be done in 8 days in the month of March, and which involves some serious trekking.

How about Sikkim.. Dongkhala pass or Nathula pass. Or Kanchenjunga trek. Anything viable in 8 days during March?

I have an old 1991 lp trekking in the nepal himalayas book that has 2 treks close to Kathmandu that you can do in a week.

The first is the Helambu circuit. It takes 7 days as you start in Kathmandu and return there. According to the book the highest pass is 3490 metres. So you should not have a problem with too much snow then.

The second is the Gosainkund Lake trek. Also 7 days. Starting and ending in Kathmandu. You will cross 4610 metre Laurebina Pass on day 3. The book says that there are lodges all along this route except late December to early March. So it must be possible in mid-march. This trek sounds much more interesting.

These treks sound good as you don't have to backtrack. Everyday is a different view.

Good Luck!

Thumbs up A. B. C.

Annapurna base Camp is a beautiful trek. It is true that you will see in most of the guide books that it needs 6days to reach ABC, but it can be highly reached in 5 days. In fact, two of my friends reached there in 4 days during bad, rainy weather.

Beauty is awesome …………..you will get some Idea from the map bellow: situation of the base camp is among those peaks………….It is like viewing around an amphitheater from its centre.
