Mumbai speech: High Altitude Traverse of Char-Dham
Did you know... the fastest 7 summits world record holder is an Indian .... Malli Mastan.
His website is at: http://www.1stindian7summits.com/default.html Also See: http://7summits.com/ He will be speaking in Mumbai ... see below: ---------------------------------------------- Malli Mastan Babu, a climber from Hyderabad, well known for his fastest ascent of 7 highest peaks of all 7 Continents, has done another interesting trek. He traversed a high altitude trail which is connecting and covering all major shrines - Char Dham. While most of the people now a days goes to these shrines via roads or by Helicopter he started from Ruiansara Tal, crossing Bali Pass to Jamnotri then to Gangotri then passing through Gangotri glacier- Kalindi Khal to Badrinath. From here he followed the same route and went across the Panpatia glacier and then going down to Madhyamaheshwar to Kedarnath. He wanted to cross Auden's Col back to Gangorti but lost his way. So he reached Gangotri by an easier route. We will get Darshan of this true pilgrimage in mountaineering style-an illustrated talk show by Malli Mastan, at the Himalayan Club Centre. Do join us. Speaker: Malli Mastan Babu, IIT-KGP alumnus (M.Tech. EE, 1998) Date & Time: Thursday, 23 August 07 at 7.00 p.m. Venue: The Himalayan Club Centre, 314, Turf Estate, Shakti Mills Lane, Off Dr. E. Moses Road, Mahalaxmi West, Mumbai--400 011, India. ... Last edited by machadinha : Aug 14th, 2007 at 07:47. Reason: adjusted title |

Till today entry to all Himalayan club local shows has been free, so my assumption that this is free too. My circular does not mention any charges. [assumption correct]
Looking at this news published on the net, i will have to reach earlier than usual coz its a small place, and i expect many Him Club members will turn up as well. My clarification has prolly added a name or two to the crowd ![]()

Yes, I too met Malli Mastan in a Himalayan Club Meet some months ago ... and I just could'nt believe that this Young Man, was so humble even after such an achievement! I felt really proud he was an Indian, in every which way! Was even more happy, when I found out he was an alumni from my alma-mater.... IIT & IIMC... my ego is now showing .... jookhhna seekheye ..wow!)- KS Last edited by machadinha : Aug 15th, 2007 at 13:16. Reason: merged posts |

any house in the upper himalaya. The main door of a house is so small that one has to 'shatter your ego' before entering the house. Apart from the climatic reasons, the small main doors in the himalyan houses also teach you to be humble. Sadanand

@ks_Bluechip...thanks! well there r so many messages given by BRO 2 when u go to uttaranchal which r so meaningful 2..the one that really touched me thou was the message on the grave of margarete lee at valley of flowers..."i will look upto the hills from where cometh my strength"..this is phenomenal..i feel the same.. nice to see KS_Bluechip that u r trekkin at this age!!...i have seen ur pics of ur previous treks..i really liked ur enthusiasm, even i have friends who r into their 50's n yet they trek hardcore...know a friend from bangalore who is a doctor,he trekked kalindikhal at the age of 55,did a 27day hardcore trek from makalu bc to everest bc over three high altitude passes, lamkhaga pass recently...i m just a newbee in trekkin with kalindikhal bein my first high altitude trek..our trek went smoothly because our leader is very experienced..really there r similarities between him and malli mastan babu in terms of zest for the mountains, humility, levelheaded ...so many other things...they r my icons!! yea now back to the topic..pls let me know...will they allow us to ask questions??would like to ask the man abt his achievements..he has excelled in all fields...acads and adventures both..its a great achievement no doubt..some ppl doubt but thats bound to happen..some ppl will always be there to question his achievements..but seriously why does a guy from IIT and IIM need to put up..i dont have any reply to this.. |

My Guess is: He would have wanted to do these Climbing achievements even before IIT/IIM .... and luckily for him those institutes, did not UNDO his climbing desires .. by putting him into a Job-Career orbit! Anyway, if you attend the Meet you can ask him those questions, certainly. Most probably I will attend too ... so see you there. |

Hi friends,
It was such a pleasure to meet that bright eyed guy at Balanada Bhramachari Ashram in Badrinath. I had the idea of M.M. Babu that he would be a strong looking man. but it was his gaze and type of concentration which looked strong. That morning when we were getting ready for getting a bus. one of my Nepalese porter Ambar Bahadur (who was with me for Badrinath to Madmaheswar via Panpatia glacier and continued to my Gongotri - Kalindi peak & pass - Badrintah trek) brought two guys to us (yes livedead was one of the member of my team). He introduced them as One HAF-Guide (sorry forgot his name) and the other is M.M. Babu. He heard that I was the person who crossed the Panpatia glacier from Badrinath to Madmaheswar for the first time finding an easier route through the Rock wall instead of climbing the dangerous icefall. I showed him all my Map, My Google earth picture of the same and had a elaborate talk over the route. AS we were thefirst to discover the route he congratulated us and took my suggestion to take Ambar Bahadur with them to show them the way I took. Unfortunately the phone no. I got from him to know the result is not working anymore. I think it is his temporary number. Hopefully Lilvedead will get his recent number and pass to me. I am really happy to meet a polite guy (even after doing those seven summits). I will miss that program. If it were only after one month I could have atttend that on the way to Killimanzaro. |
