Thanks yaar,

Spoke to my friend in India who is in touch with someone who organises these trips professionally (don't know who they are).

He said Kalanag may not be possible in mid-March and he is making alternate arrangements.

So guess I'll be looked after there.

Kind regards and cheers for your tips.
Goawalla.

Any suggestions?

I'm relatively fit but pretty inexperienced. I've only climbed one mountain in NZ that was 2300 metres high and took 12 hours to climb and descend in total.

Thanks in advance.
Do you mean 7 days from arrival to and departure from Base Camp? If so, then you have three options if you are not an Indian National. Friendship peak(5289m.)& Ladakhi peak(5345m.) in Himachal Pradesh and Stok Kangri(6153m.) in Ladakh. If you are an Indian, then there are several more options like Rudugaira, Thelu, Koteshwar, etc. But you must keep in mind that it is not safe to rush up a high altitude Himalayan peak because of paucity of time. It is very important to acclimatise to the altitude before moving higher.

Planning to Kalanag and Dhumdhar Kandi post Monsoon this year. Reaching Delhi on 26th august. Planning to be back to Delhi on 11th September. Overall 16 days expedition.

Team size excluding Support Staff would be around 8. None of the members have done any mountaineering course. They have done high altitude treks like Auden's Col or Kalindi Pass.

any suggestions?? recommendations on guide?

hey jp!
We are planning for DDK in first half of may(5-15th) and are looking for guides too. Had come across two options and both of them have exorbitant prices or unreasonable conditions. Can you recommend someone? If u come across any good guide, please share too...
Happy trekking!

JP, good luck with your plans. Wish you all the success! How are you going about getting permits from the IMF for this? Do you have an agency handling it for you?

@Chits: Thanks for teh info. I had heard good things about Chandan Singh from other sources also. Let me speak to him over the weekend.

Madhav,
I have not yet estimated the trek cost. A similar 16 days trek to Auden's Col and Mayali Pass last year had costed me around Rs. 19000/head for a team of 6.

This time, we might have a team size of 8.. So, even after considering the recent increase in prices, I think we should be able to do within 20k with a variance of 10%.

@jp

JP

Strongly recommend taking a trained qualified guide.
That route is full of crevasses. Harish Kapadia;s description validates quite a lot of that. He followed exactly the same route I have earlier indicated. Difference is, he came in from Ruinsara. U could have an advantage descending from DDK. It could be an unique attempt too(but u need more research for that one).

Proper mountaineering gear along with snowshoes(not koflach) if possible. Today I see precipitation at Delhi. Very likely that the ranges also got another round of late snow.

The descent to Ruinsara valley is also a tricky one. Better to have guides who have done the area.
