The State Funeral for Sir E.H. will be on the 22nd in Auckland. If my Broadband arrives (now meant to be tomorrow) I could watch it on my computer or listen to it. NZBC have livecoverage on
www.radionz.co.nz and TV3 - on www.3news.co.nz starting at 10.30a.m.(I presume NZ time so will have to work out time difference and I have a feeling it means terribly early in the morning here)

Laid to rest today

So Sir Ed will be laid to rest today. He has been lying in state at one of the main cathedrals in Auckland giving people the chance to say farewell personally. Apparently 4 members of the original 1953 expedition have flown to NZ to attend the funeral.

That's nice - 4 members of original expedition - bb. He will be sadly missed, but, as others have mentioned, he had a wonderful innings.

Padma Vibhushan

So I saw on the TV news a short while ago that Sir Ed has been awarded the Padma Vibhushan in the Republic Day honours list.

For those who don't know, it's India's second highest civilian honour (after the Bharat Ratna), so a pretty big deal; the top 2 honours are hardly ever given to foreign nationals.
Pity he can't collect it himself - I expect his wife or son will.

Thanks for posting that Dilliwalla - isn't that great? I'm a bit out of the news at the moment so wouldn't have known but for your post.
