Mountaineering in Kalpa-Kinnaur & Spiti
I am interested in ideas for a combined acclimatisation trek into Kalpa-Kinnaur or Spiti followed by a trek to a side valley to set up base camp to access a few PD/AD mountains over about 4 weeks in August/September.
I am considering combining Pin-Parvati or Rupa Valley-Manirang Pass trek approaches with mountaineering in the Lingti or Shilla valley areas. Any other ideas? |

From your two sentences it is apparent that you are well versed with Spiti and its topography. So, how can we give you ideas? [you already have some nice ideas in place..]
Point 6632 [Parvati Peak?] somewhat above [NNE] Pin Parvati Pass has been climbed only four times and is considered a challenge even for seasoned mountaineers. It has seen far more failures than successes. Which peak/s do you have in mind? You must have read about Harish Kapadia's rambles in Spiti, I presume...

Yes I have read Harish's book - that's where some of the inspiration has come from! Still undecided about a main objective, but exploration of perhaps lower peaks in a little visited ares has some attratction too - hence the post!! There are so many possibilities ....

Phawarang is also a good possibility-last time I did reccee of this area-I came to know that water could be major probelm.
There was no water avialble from base camp to summit camp. |

Okay, I'm not as good as all here but here is my 2 cents:
for pin parvati, teek and climb, do not negotiate if get the best guide, the best giudes are NOT in Manali but in Pin Valley ( the easy entry point) but it can be arranged at a better rate in Manali if you know the right person. If you want 'climbing' then I assume you need to rent the equipment, Manali is the place for that. No commercial thingy but if you want, you can contact Nitin at the travel agency just above the Chopsticks on the mall in Manali
