You are rated for:
1. How good is your stamina 2. How well you learn the new things (rock climbing, snow and ice crafting). You need to complete the climb every day. 3. The written exam at the end. But points 1 and 2 carry more weight. |

There is a health centre in my city and it has this wall climbing that is simulated like rock climbing. Does practicing on something like that help?

Basic Mountaineering Course: Two weeks or less
Does anyone know of basic mountaineering courses in India that are around 2 weeks (or less) in duration? The only courses that people talk about are the ones offered by NIM and HMI, which are 26 days long. Unfortunately taking that much time off from work isn't feasible.
What I'm looking for is training on basic skills like self arrest techniques, crampon use, fixed ropes, etc. I've been trying to search for this information without success. Any input is appreciated. Govt/private doesn't matter as long as the latter is reputed and isn't exorbitant. Thanks! |

NIM & HMI are the two most reputed institutes for Mountaineering courses, but their standard course schedule are of 26 days, if you want to complete the course within 2 weeks, you should try the mountaineering clubs many of which has annual rock training or basic mountaineering courses, but don't expect good quality instructors or good quality gears. I think, training also include life risks to a certain limit, so in my opinion, first contact with those clubs and check their standard/quality then decide.
