Motorcycle trip to Spiti
We are planning a trip in spiti region. This is the tentative route we have decided.
Shimla – Rampur – Recong Peo - Kaza – Ki Gompa - Kibber (then back to Shimla on the same route) Duration: March 12 to 19, 2006 Now some queries: * Where can we hire bikes in Shimla? And any rough idea about charges per day. * What cc bike would be required? * We were wondering to go further Kibber...if possble Chandertal ...is it possible in the month of March? This would be our first motorbike trip on mountains though we have been to treks and long distance bike trips on planes many times. We would be in a group of 6-8 guys. Comments and suggestions are most invited. Thanks. -rsankh |

i will not suggest hired bikes for Spiti. i am a biker and i will never have courage to take some one else's bike to a place as difficult as Spiti.
Enfield Bullets are good idea for Himalayas, but you gotta know these bikes well. pulsar, fiero, CBZ, karizma will all do. smaller bikes will make you shift gears very rapidly and it will cause lot of fatigue (imagin pressing clutch 500 times in a day). ![]() |

No problemo ! I have taken it almost everywhere. I have driven it on a steep road uphill with full throttle and the speed on speedo varying between 5 - 10 Kmph in first gear ! No cushion for brakes ! If you brake - you won't even get time to look where you will fall...
Pretty comfy with clutches ! Got a strong left hand middle finger. |

Rsankh, like Nomad said, best is to use your own bike. If you cant, then either rent a bullet or any other 150+cc 4st(which will be tough to find) bike.
