more trekkies needing advice!!
Hi,
Myself and my wife are heading for the hills in a couple of days- starting in Rishikesh and making our way slowly up to Manali/Dharamsala- hoping to do at least one trek. I presume we will need some warm clothes so are these available in Rishikesh, and if so- any ideas on where/how much/ what we will need? We won't be doing any hard trekking, and will be staying around this area for about a month. Also- is the Manali-Leh highway open at this time of the year? How long/ how much does it cost? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks |

hi,
just want to know if we need to buy some warm clothes, and if so- what would y ou recommend? We have never been to India before and have spent the last few days travelling up from Mumbai- we only have summer clothes with us- and I belive the mountains can get quite cold- basically what do we need (i.e. fleece jackets, long warm trousers, jackets??) and can we get what we need in Rishikesh? Thanks |

There are a few shops in Rishikesh selling warm clothes. But you will get more variety if you go to Haridwar, which is close (24 kms). The market there offers more variety.

Hi themush,
I guess you'll pass through Delhi, you can try to get warm clothings there. The Sarojini Nagar Market there have some stores which sells warm clothings round the year and they are open to bargaining. Else you can try the Tibetian Market near ISBT. Do not forget to haggle hard for the price before you buy. The choice of your clothings will depend upon the altitude you are going to visit. For the manali/Dharmashala heavy pullover or warm jacket will do. Anindya

it will be 2-4 degree centigrade at minimum....so why dont u carry some warm clothes of yours from ireland rather than buying here???? doesnt it get colder in irelend??? if u eye for some high altitude trek (like tapovan or chandratal) then only u will need holo/feather fill jackets...otherwise not.
