30/05/2006 Lilam Bodgudiyar
31/05/2006 Bodgudiyar Martoli
01/06/2006 Martoli Martoli (rest day)
02/06/2006 Martoli Milam

04/06/2006 Patta Nanda Devi Base Camp
05/06/2006 Base Camp Martoli
06/06/2006 Martoli Bodguiyar
07/06/2006 Bodgudiyar Selapani/Munsiyari
08/06/2006 Munsiyari Almora
09/06/2006 Almora Kathgodam
10/06/2006 Kathgodam Delhi

Would like to know from those of you have already done this, whether this seems like a reasonable itinerary, esp given the fact that most of us would be doing the serious trekking for first time.
Have already gone through the travelogues of Jeoren, and almoraboy; so any other help would be most welcome.
Regards
Adarsh

Question Help Needed!

Guys
Any help around approximate cost of hiring a taxi from Kathgodam to Munsiyari would be highly appreciated.
Alos would be really helpful, if some of the veterans of this route could suggest whether the itinerary above is going to be too much for irregular trekkers?

Trek is OK

Your trek schedule seems do-able.

I don't know the taxi charges. My friend says it could be around 2000 Rs per day [X 2] plus one day return fare.

Provide one more day and you can go by the bus.

Milam Glasior

A Long and arduous trek. Experienced trekkers can compelete as scheduled, keep some extra days for the whole trek. There are only few Buses from Kathgodam to Berinag and there after Munsiyari.

If your group is reasonably fit you could go to Milam via the Birjeganj Dhura, a high pass near Ralam village. You cross the bridge after Lilam and take the route to Ralam village. The views from this pass are spectacular and worth the effort. You descend down the other side of the pass to Tola and join the route to Milam. You will be well acclimatised after this and can visit the Nanda Devi East B.C. on your way back to Munsiari from Milam.

You have not kept any rest days for acclimatising during the earlier part of the trek and that can be dangerous. I also thought that you had 16 trekking days not including travel to/from Munsiari. Kathgodam to Munsiari will take a good longer than 6 hours. If you want to do Birjeganj Dhura(highly recommended) then the itinerary(only trekking) should look something like this:

Day 01: Munsiari to Lilam
Day 02: Lilam to Paton
Day 03: Paton to Sarpu
Day 04: Sarpu to Ralam
Day 05: Rest/Acclimatise at Ralam (MOST IMPORTANT)
Day 06: Ralam to Tola via Birjeganj Dhura
Day 07: Tola to Burphu
Day 08: Burphu to Milam
Day 09: To Milam glacier and down to Martoli
Day 10: Martoli to Lwani
Day 11: Lwani to Naspanpatti or Nanda Devi East B.C.
Day 12: Naspanpatti or Nanda Devi East B.C. to Martoli
Day 13: Martoli to Bugdyar
Day 14: Bugdyar to Munsiari

You may be able to reduce one day by going from Tola to Milam but rest days to acclimatise is a must. If time is a constraint then you may skip the Ralam part and go straight to Bugdyar from Lilam but this will save you only two days. Birjeganj Dhura is a highly recommended detour worth the two extra days.
