Thumbs up Mayali pass in 2009

Hi All,

we want to do the Mayali Pass in 2009, we have tried out Mayali pass trek on late sept/early oct in 2004 from Ghuttu side but only manage to go just before Masar taal, due to heavy snowfall and our tent was not that good so we aborted the trek.

1) can you people tell us which time/month will be good for this trek,

2) any one has crossed recently and let us know the guide's name and phone number and the experience about the route.

3)also request to make an itinerary for Mayali pass, at least from Ghuttu to Kedarnath.

any suggestion from anybody is welcome.

regards,

Hi, Actually I was also planning for Mayali Pass in 2009, I thought it for June , but perished the idea then, I think middle of August to middle of September is the best time, that is the time span God gifted us for the high altitude passes.

Thanks Supratim, actually we go for trip either last week om may/ 1st week of june and again last week of september/ 1st week of october but last few years we are facing rain in almost all day in sept/oct time in the trip, whether its tapoban, mayali pass, adi kailash, or in chadrakhani pass. and all this trip we got rain in all days and sometimes it started from morning 7am.....

anyway if you got any further information please do let me know.

All my suggessions are there in India Mike in the Mayali pass thread. Supratim knows also.

I had crossed the pass after failing thrice from the Ghuttu side I crossed from the other side may be I am the only one to do so.

I personally think it is easier from the Kedarnath side. The reasons being

From the Ghuttu side you do not gain height till the 4th day. Whereas from the Kedarnath side you gain heigh on the first day itself. Kedarnath 11650ft Ghuttu 6500, Reeh 8000, Gangi 9000, Kharsoli 8500, Khatling 10200. Mayali Pass 17500 feet, you have to aclimatize before crossing.

However you do not get guides from the Kedarnath side.

The most famous guide from the Ghuttu side is Jaipal Singh. Before going write to them with answear envelope. The address simple
Jaipal Singh
Village Ghuttu
Post Tehri (Pin code please get from the net)

I crossed with Bhim Singh. I was alone had one guide and two porters.
Good Luck

Mayali Pass

Hi friends,

I am new to this forum and we a gang of six members from Chennai crossed Mayali Pass in the month of June-July 2008....

We could be the first Tamil gang who might have crossed this adventurous trek( since this is my first trek, i could always say, this is the most adventurous task i have ever taken in my life )....

Thankfully we had completed this trek in the first attempt itself... all the credit goes to our guide ....although he was not with us during the trek, he provided us a great team which comprised of three awesome guides and ten helpers.... These people helped us a lot, without them i might not have even reached "Reeh"..

People who are aspiring to take this trek could see our pics at the following link.....

Hi Sundar, I've already collected all your Mayali tour pics, you have got everything - peaks, green, blue lake, snow, misty weather all in one tour, great adventurous tour. I'm trying Mayali within 1 year that is sure .
