May 3-15, Trekking in the Himalayas

Hi,

I live in California and visiting India between May 1st and 19th. I am planning to travel/trek in Himalayas between May 3rd and May 15th.

I have not picked a place yet, but Darjeeling/Sikkim area, Leh Markha Valley or Manali area are possibilities.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Regards,

Shyam

Mountaingirl,

My dates are fixed and based on the research I have done, it looks like it is a little early for Leh, HP area but a good time to go to Darjeeling/Sikkim. In parallel, I wanted to see if there is anyone interested in trekking at the same time.

I will continue to read up on the treks.

Now you are absolutely correct!

Try the Dzongri/ Goechala trek. The only thing I don't like here are the leeches!!

Good luck mate!

k2k,

Since you have already decided on the area, try this uncharted route : Singalila Ridge on the India-Nepal border. Goecha La is a bit more popular & its a "return same way route". This new route involves walking up the border upto Dhafey Bhir Meadow & going clockwise to come down the traditional return route of Goecha La. It has a brief mention on IM : the link is :

Singalila Ridge - a secret of Sikkim

If you really want the precise day-wise route, I'll have to dig it out from my somewhat un-organized trek-logs. As far as leeches are concerned, they are a post-first-monsoon-shower phenomenon which lasts 3 or 4 months. If it has rained substantially by 3rd May, (unlikely), then some leeches may have come out.

If for some reason, you drop Sikkim...... visit Kinnaur before it becomes a tourist trap. There are many trekking routes which are practically untrod.

Happy trekking!!

hi

one of the youth hosteh association trek. There are group treks organised to 3 passes. The Sar pass, Chanderkhani and the Har ki doon treks, all for about 7 to 10 days and are arranged in May / June.

Check this site for more info..and registration forms. I had gone on a trek last year. It was well organised and was safe.

Good luick to you.

With the youth hostel organised treks, you might not need to look for travel partners, many others will also sign up for this, and hence u will meet lot of like minded people.

have fun.
