Manimahesh Trek
Hello friends,
I am new to this forum but love the Himalayas and trekking there. I would like to go for the Manimahesh trek ( Chamba ), in September end / October 1st week. Is it possible to do this trek during this period? Where can I get guide / porters and what it approx cost me. Thanks Vartika |

hi,
yes you can do in that time & i think that is the besh time for that, You take bus for Bharmor or Hadsar from Chamba or Pathankot.Hadsar is the last road head. Next day you can start trek for Dhancho & then next day to Manimahesh. Their are local tae shop in the way & you can find food & lodge their. Quote:

Info about manimahesh trek
Hi, I am from chamba and have treked there 5 times. Manimahesh Lake is situated at the height of 4100m. A Fair is held every year from Janmashthmi to Radha-ashthami i.e officially for 15 days. That time u will found very rush. And as the time passes the climate'comes very cold, So this will be better for you to trek before October coz after the fair the rush is very less and there are no govt. facilities, only private and very-very less facilities will be there. So think about it... Gud Luck

Cold or snow or govt facilities is not a problem. The only thing is that will I be able to get porters/guide from Bharmour/Hadsar?

If you require guide at all you will get in Varmore, I am not very sure about Hudsar. The guide that I went with was a trained man his name is Gopal Sharma. He may not be avaibable but I am sure there are others. Do not miss the 84 temples complex in Vermore. The place is very beautiful. Also visit the Bhrami Devi kund. |

Its just the way you spell it. In one of the maps from Europe it was spelt as Vermore. Indian way is Bharmour.
The trek starts from there. I got my guide from there. Things may have changed since the time I went out there way back in 1993a good 15 years have passed. Now there is a Yatra with Langars etc just the way the Amarnath Yatra is conducted. Hence treking to the peak should not be a problem at all. The ideal time to take the best photograph of the peak is early morning when the sun gliters on the snow of the peak thus giving it its name "Mani" meaning Gem. |

Plz find enclosed Link for some selcted pics of the Manimahesh Trek i Did Last Summer. October would be touch & go for manimahesh. I feel Sept is a better option for Manimahesh. Dont go during the Yatra Time as its madly crowded at that time. During my Sec visit in 2006 to manimahesh i happened to be there at the fair time. Also hike further up to Kamal Kund, its right at the foot noe of Manimahesh Kailash peak, &n one gets a arial View of Manimahesh dal Lake
