Mangsu Pass
Avid, You are right. It is east of Charang pass. I saw it in Leomann Map (sheet-6). Even thematic map of Kinnaur by NATMO depicts this pass. Deepak Sanan has also mentioned about it. I saw it in some other maps also but don't remember. Thanks for tips to post new thread. |

Mangsu Pass, Kinnaur ?
Hi, i am planning to trek from charang village via Mangsu pass to Chitkul. Has anyone done/attempted this trek? Any other information about the pass would help.
Thanks. |

Hi, I attached a *zip file which includes a *kmz file for Google Earth... (Unpack this file >>> double click >>> GE should start and "fly" to this place...if installed)... Hope it works.
I guess the Mangsu Pass is situated there... AndreasW P.S. We should ask our admin's to allow *kmz files for attaching too. It would be easier to explain such things... Enjoy! AndreasW |

Thanks a lot, Andreas. I was about to SOS you on Mangsu pass to get at least some info. Last time when i was in Charang i tried to speak to some guide who is familiar with the trail but without luck. This time i'll try to speak to shepherds. Let's see how it goes..

I saw "Upper Tukpa" map on pg 144 old edn. book by Deepak Sanan.
I believe there is a Pass crossing possible from the Gymthing river valley [Nesang villge] to the Tedong river valley [Charang & Kunu vllages] I do believe the road linking Spillo to Nesang has been completed by now. Andreas, what about planning this trek?? . . . |

Your ITBP would me imprison if I'd explore such paths in reality... More interesting seems the Ganchua/Gangchha circuit via Gangthang La from Nesang to Dubling or vice versa... Someone experiences with permissions? But, my destination is this year on the "axis of evil"... not Kinnaur... ![]() |

Andreas is right about ITBP They maintain permanent forward post and filling post in the area then they have their regular patrolling also. Avid, i believe you are referring to Shola- Mekher dwar- Yamadaling thtang-==Murang Khiclu lung glaciers- Khdi thatang strech. I think even shepherds are not allowed in this trail after a point. When border with Tibet was open, one trade route was trough Dubling- Rishidogri-Lamache-Ganthangla- Raniso la. This route was mainly treaded upon by Pooh, Dubling and Dobling villagers. It is said to be most difficult than other six routes to Tibet. Andreas, sadly even ganthag-la is in ITBP purview. |
