Mana Pass Pictures
Has anybody got pictures of Mana Pass and surrunding areas?
Please do send me.
Please do send me.
As you may be aware the pass is on the border and not many people other than Army guys visit the place. It may be difficult to get the pics. I hope some one has one and share it.
Dear Sharmaji,
I have seen these pictures and find them interesting. Do you have any other source for route and destination pictures?

Reason: spell mistake
Where you have seen those pics? In preindependence British magazines like geographical etc? Officially it's not permitted to carry camera in these areas. Even detailed maps are prohibited.
Probably mountaineering expeditions are allowed to keep a cam as there is a Govt. liasson officer attached. Other than the army, I have n't come across any trekkers going upto the pass that is beyond Ghastoli. May be you have tapped an army source to get to see the pics. Or a local bhotia porter must have had those pictures.
whoever has them, publishing these pictures on the web might attract Indian army attention.

I doubt the road at present extends right up to the pass. Of late the road construction activity in Tibetan border valleys has speeded up. light vehicles ply in upper sections near the passes as the valleys are broader there and the trans Himalayan terrain is an undulating landscape. Eg. Lapthal - Chujan & Sangcha, Gunji - Kalapani, Burfu - Milam, and also above Nelang in Jadh Ganga valley. It's a matter of time before the passes are connected with motorable roads.

agree with you Rajkumar... its just a path cut open , and here road does not mean black tarmac.. and ahead Mana village only half km is what can be called proper road ahead which is all off roading.. see this below pic to know how the terrain is ahead... Himalayansherpa,
What is the farthest point on that road you have gone? It must be a kutcha road...As per BRO..."the troops of 75 RCC/21 BRTF finally linked the road upto Mana Pass on 13 Sep 2011." Mana pass(18,399 ft ) is higher than Khardungla, apparently.

Other than biking to Mana pass, one can also do sailing in a near by lake !
See this account of High altitude sailing in Deotal, a lake situated near Mana pass. ( See the next post for the images )
Wondering What next? Scuba diving in the lake and Bungee jumping from the Pass?

Enough of virtual.
Now a real picture of the pass:

I first came across the description of the trek across Mana pass in Swami Tapovan's Wandering in the Himalayas. In it he calls Deo Tal as Deo saras. And he camped there over night on his way to Tholingmath. But it's a century back.
