After the temple closes the hotels shut down and Madmaheshwar village is closed for the year. So the place is left deserted in winter. You can go upto Gaundar in winter. The village is mostly functional in winter. Then,if the Panchwati lodge is open, you can venture further up to that spot.

Kedarnath - 14 trek from Gaurikund (1 day trek). Alternatively, ponies are avilable for those who are not willing to walk.
Tunganath - 4km trek from Chopta (takes approx 3hrs from Chopta). Again, ponies are available from Chopta.
Madmaheshwar - Approx 24 km trek (2 days). Again, as I came to know, ponies are available.
Rudranath - 20 km trek (2 days) from Gopeshwar. I dont know if ponies are available.
Kalpeshwar - 10 km trek from a village called Helang.
Of what I know, among the five Kedars, Rudranath is the toughest! As I have been to Kedarnath and Tungnath, this is what I know- there are quite a few places to stay in Kedarnath. You can easily book the GMVN bunglow. As far as Tungnath is concerned, the KaliKamli dharamsala is the best option to stay (though it is not luxurious).
I am sure other IMers would be able to give you more detailed information. I , however, agree completely with the itenary of Somnath da, looking at the time constraints, and the fact that you will be taking your mother, I would not suggest that you venture all the five Kedars.

Sagarneel.

I think, barring the plan of 24th, the rest of the itenerary is fine. 24th is doable, but I dont think you will have time for the ropeway to Auli. Consider the following:
Gaurikund to Ukhimath - 1 hour by car, and if you paln to visit the temple at Ukhimath (which is not motorable), you will require another hour or a little less.
Ukhimath to Chopta - 1.5 hrs by car. So, you wont be reaching Chopta before 8.30 if you leave by 6 from Gaurikund. Chopta to Tunganath and back + puja at Tinganath would take another 3hrs approx. In that case, even if you do it at a perfect speed, you wont be able to come back to Chopta from Tunganath before 1PM. Chopta to Joshimath is another 120 km (=4hrs). So, I dont think you can reach Joshimath before 5pm. In that case, you would probably have to cancel the pplan for Auli.
The rest of the plan is perfect IMO.!
Regards,
Sagarneel.

My answers are in red for your consideration.
23/05/10 -- Come down to Gourikund and stay. Here I will suggest you to stay at Ukhimath. It's nice place. You can call Jai Maharaj for booking of Gourikund/Kedarnath/Ukhimath (Bharat Seva Ashram). Ukhimath BSA is a nice place. It is nearer to Chopta.
24/05/10 -- Start for Tunganath within 6 AM, after Darshan,
start for Joshimath and stay at Joshimath. If
possible I shall try to visit Auli Ropeway. After visiting Tungnath it is not possible to visit Ropeway. Stay option at Joshimath are many. But considering your time of journey I will suggest you to book GMVN for that night. Dormitary facility are also available.25/05/10 -- Within 7 AM start for Badrinath. Darshan and stay.
26/05/10 -- Stay at Badrinath. Visit Mana Village, Basudhara
Falls, Charan Paduka etc.
27/05/10 -- Start journey for Haridwar, if possible visit
Rishikesh and stay at Birla Guest House at Haridwar. Here I will suggest you to stay at Rishikesh. You will feel the difference.
28/05/10 -- Ganga-Snan at Haridwar and visit local Temples etc. Ganga Snan is more enjoyable at Rishikesh than Haridwar. 29/05/10 -- Start for Howrah.

Dada, I do not know where I can stay most comfortably with a reasonable rate at Joshimath. Moreover, If I have to stay at Chopta then where to stay ? Are there any Birla Guest House at Joshimath ? or Kali Kamli Dharmasala ? Dada, pls. help me about my aforesaid tour program.

I like to complete the tour by Car oor Sumo. If you can suggest any name of Driver or Agency with reasonable rate. Speak with Amri @ 09897732620. They are good. My brother went a month back from Haridwar. Their office is at Rishikesh. While speaking with Amri take Rajindar's name of Punjab & Sindh .

The only available options for stay in Chopta are basic hotels or Dhabas (commonly called chattis). They provide a very basic accomodation, but their hospitality is impeccable. Among the other chattis, the one owned by Mangal Singhji is the most popular among Bengali tourists. The renowned Himalayan travellougue writer late Sri Umaprasad Mukherjee stayed in Mangal Singh ji's chatti, when he first visited Tunganath!
If you want better accomodation facilities, you can try a place called Duggalbhita, approx. 6 km before Chopta on the Ukhimath-Chopta road. There is a good hotel called Mayadeep rest house there! Duggalbhita is also known for its amazing view of the peaks!
Note- There is no GMVN in Chopta, though some sources claim so!

In Kedar, BSA has different type of rooms. My brother is going Kedar this year and has booked a room for 6 person for 5th October. They have charged @100/- per head. I think, for double bedded room, the charges should not be more than 250/-.

Now, all the booking is being done from Haridwar BSA by JAI MAHARAJ. His cell no. is 09411732671. Please call him to get all the details. My brother had sent money through electronic Money Order and has received confirmation by post. You can rely on them.

Please call Jai Maharaj of Haridwar to book your accommodation for Gaurikund,Kedarnath,Ukhimath and Badrinath. As you are going on peak season, my suggestion is to book those rooms well in advance.

Mangal Singh is very nice person and I met him in the year 2005. You can contact him for any kind of help @ Tungnath. Start very early morning from Ukhimath to reach Chopta by 7 am. BSA Ukhimath is on the Ukhimnath - Chopta Road. Start for Tungnath as soon as you arrive there. I think you should come back by 11.00. Take lunch at Mangal Sinhg's dhaba. Start for Joshimath by 1.00. By evening you will easily reach there. Take rest and next morning start for Badrinath.I don't find any reason for stay at Chopta in your tight schedule.

On Rajinder Singh's intervention @ Punjab and Sind , Amri agreed @1600/- per day for my brother. I think you will get nearer to that rate. But remember, you are going on a peak season. In October, they call it 'Bengali Season'.

At Joshimath, I always stay at GMVN. For Private lodge and hotels, you need to see other posts in this site.
