Hello everybody,
Myself and my friend Anirvan have made trip to Madmaheswar last week. For both of us this was the first time trekking. The experience was amazing. We have followed the below schedule -

1. 12th Sept 2008 (Friday)- Boarding Doon Express from Howrah.

2. 14th Sept 2008 (Sunday)- Reached Hardwar at Morning and then proceed to Ukhimath same day. We hired a car for the entire trip

3. 15th Sept 2008 (Monday) - Proceed to Uniana by car. Trekked up to Bantoli.

4. 16th Sept 2008 (Tuesday) - Reach MadhyaMaheswar and Stay Overnight

5. 17th Sept 2008 (Wednesday) - Climbed upto Bura Maheswar in the morning and reached Gaundar for N/H

6. 18th Sept 2008 (Thiursday) - Gaundar to Uniana, then went to Sari for Deoriataal. Stayed overnight at Tent beside the Taal.

7. 19th Sept 2008 (Friday) - Started journey towards Hardwar to catch Doon express from Hardwar at 10 PM.

Thanks to all of you

Hi everyone,
Thanks to all of you for your comments. I am checking Indiamike after a long time. I am seeing few questions for me. I am trying to answer those -

Tent at Deoriataal
There is a hotel at Sari village named Deoria Tourist lodge and the name of the proprieter is Lakpat Singh. I had his phone number but misplaced it. He can set up the tent and arrange for sleeping bags. The rent for the tent was Rs 500 /- per night.

Distances between places
Starting from Ukhimathh.....
Ukhimathh to Uniana - Distance not known, but it is a 1 hr. car journey
Uniana to Ransi - 3 k.m.
Rani to Gaundar - 6 k.m.
Gaundar to Bantoli - 1 k.m.
Bantoli - Madmaheswar - 9.5 km

Regards,
Arunava

Hi Arunav,
Somnath here. Is it possible to know the car hire charges you paid to and fro Haridwar.

Thanks in anticipation.

Car Hire Rate

We hired an ambassador for six days (from Sunday morning to Friday afternoon). The Hardwar taxi association (just outside railway station complex) has two types of scheme -

1. You hire a car @ Rs. 1500 per day. But for this you have to come to an agreement (verbal of course) with the driver regarding the day to day tour programme. Because in this scheme drivers will avoid to cover distances beyond the agreed point. But if you do not use the vehicle for the entire day even then the charge will be Rs. 1500 per day.

2. Second scheme is that there would be a fixed and a variable part of the cost. Fixed part is Rs. 1000 per day. Variable part is the cost of diesel. Calculation method is one litre of diesel for every 10 km of journey.

We opted for scheme one after negotiating the rate to Rs. 8500 for six days. We noticed that we could have paid about Rs. 600-700 less had we gone for scheme 2. But we avoided the burden of maintaining the k.m. log and enjoyed the nature & hills.

Thanks Arunava for your reply. Suppose, we opt for Scheme 1 and take the car for, say 3 days. Will they provide if we release it at Ukhimath.

Haridwar/Karnaprayag/Chopta/Ukhimath and then release the car. day 1.Har/Kar (stay). day 2. Karnaprayag Chopta - stay. day 3.Chopta- Ukhimath (we release the car in such a time so that it can come back to Haridwar on the same day) then release the car. We may take 5 days to Madmaheswar in a slow pace with family. For Ukhimath Uniana local vehicle is available, if I am not wrong. Can we opt for that. I mean to say, did you check this sort of option with them. Sorry for bothering you.

In scheme 1, if you leave the car at such a time so that it can reach Hardwar within the same day, I do not see any problem. But at the same time, I did not seek any information from the drivers in this line too.

For your information, We had started around 8:30 in the morning from sari village which is around 45 min. journey away from Ukhimath. We could reach Hardwar around 4:30 PM including a lunch and two tea breaks. And this was within a heavy raining condition for the first three hr.s. So you can calculate the time from here.

From Chopta you can directly procedd to Uniana as now there is a staying option. I am saying so becuase I feel there is no regular communication from Ukhimath to Uniana in the morning. Atleast we did not see option in the market area. But for the trip from Uniana to Ukhimath, there is a bus which leaves Uniana at around 1:00 PM. Or since you have planned for slow trek covering so many days, why do not you start the trek from Ukhimath itself? The scenic beauty between Ukhimath and Uniana is good too.

Thanks Arunava for your reply. Glad to know that in Uniana, there are staying options. In that case one can stay at Uniana instead of Ukhimath and start trekking from there itself. Thank you once again.

Thank you Arunava for your reply. Since we are two women trekking on our own we will opt for Bus. Your photos are fantastic. I feel i am already in Madmaheswar. Update with your next trekking experience. All my questions are answered through different threads. The forum is such a blessing! My next plan is for valley of flowers in September 2009.
