Just came back from Madhmaheshwar this Sept. The car now goes upto a village called Uniana. There are no ponies readily available, as you may find in places like Kedarnath but I think they can be arranged provided some notice is given. We trekked all they way and so am not aware of the rates or the procedure for arrnaging the ponies but I am sure you can get it as I saw one couple going up on ponies. I will try and send you the phone no of Mr Panwar in whose hotel we stayed at Gaundhar - he may be able to help. BTW Madhmaheshwar would have closed by now - when are you planning to go??

Thank a ton for the information. I have a plan to go next year and am planning it now. The fact is my wife and my son is the family. We normally go Himalaya every year but my wife is not able to walk more. If I am not wrong, it's a very tough route especially from Gaundhar.

Will glad to have your suggestion and phone numbers. Any query from your side?

@ Arun

You will get to stay at Chopta. Tunganath may be approachable but staying there options are less. Chandrashila would be snow covered by early / mid december hence not approachable. However can be tried if you are keen to.

Chopta - GMVN is the best choice.
Tunganath - Dharmshala of Mandir Committee. But as you know they all close on the day of Diwali. Hence recomended visit and come back if possible.

Yes..It is uphill after Gaunder..U can get ponies till Madmaheshwar but the best views are from Budha Madmaheshwar which is about a km steep up from Madmaheshwar. No ponies will go to that point. But if u want to enjoy the views make an effort and go to that spot.It will be very rewarding, specially at sunrise..

Agree with Travel Joy - Buda Madh is must. Excellent view of Chaukhamba and beautiful refelction of it in the three small ponds which are there at Buda Madh.

Thanks guys for your valued information. One more question. Suppose I get pony from Uniana, how long it will take to reach Madamaheswar. Can we make it in a day?

madhyamaheswar

Hi Somnath,

we have been to Madhyamaheswar this year during the monsoons ...I dnt think you should try reaching Madhmaheswar in one day..it is quite a distance from Uniana aswell as Gaundhar. If you have enough time in hand try halting and spending the night in places like Gaundhar then Katara..they are very basic but the most amazing journey through the forests..
Theres bit of ascend after Gaundhar..so slow and steady pace shoudnt become too much of a problem.
The Ukhimath GMVN is good and from where you could arrange to hire a jeep( to reach and go a little ahead of Uniana) from where the walk or the ride starts.
I will trace the numbers of a few guys, who have been our friend philosopher and guide in the madhmaheswar trip..hopefully there numbers will work and they will be able to help you.
cheers

Thanks for your reply guy. It's really a helpful suggestion. I had a plan earlier that if I could not make it, will stay in between for one two days to grab the beauty of the nature. I love to stay in a peaceful area. Will follow your suggestion.
I normally stay at Bharat Seva Ashram at Ukhimath. I had been there thrice. Will that be a problem?

thanks Somnath
dnt think it should be a problem if you are staying at the Bharat Sebasram...since you have a lot of time in your hands you can plan it well..and things can be arranged before hand. I will get back to you with the phone numbers.
One question i had.. has this trip that you are planning got anything to do with Umaprasad Mukhopadhyay?
