Hi. I plan to do the Lamayuru - Chiling trek (with two high passes with altitude of 4950 and 4430 m) and need to postpone the trekking till the first week of October. It should be generaly still OK regarding the weather - but what is the probability of getting into trouble due to snow and about how bad it may be. I am travelling with my girl and would not like to put her to excessive risk.
Thanks for sharing experience. |

Early October is good for trekking in Ladakh, and the route you're asking about has some good "escape routes" if the snows block your path. If the Konzke La is snowed in, you can always branch off at Fangila and make a low-altitude circuit to Hanupatta and Photoksar. If the snows come before you reach the Dundunchen La, you can branch off in the valley below Sumda Chenmo and continue (pass-lessly) to the Zanskar river road and on to Chiling. Don't miss the lovely village and monastery of Sumda Choon, a brief detour enroute.
