Some years back we did the former route. This one seems to be the popular one as we had met others who did this. Carry enough drinking water in the Gorson area. How about returning by the other route?

I have done both of the routes by myself and enjoyed the fantastic scenery specially the view of Nanda Devi Peak ( 7817mtrs- Highest peak of Indian Himalayas ).
The first route does not cross the Kauri Pass. I will highly recommend the 2nd route which is a circular one starts from Ghat. This route give you time for acclimatization. The trek starts gradually from Ghat ( 1500mtrs ) to Ramni ( appx 2200mtrs). This particular route passes in the begining through terraced fields, remote mountain villages, and than denes forest rich in wild life and beautiful alpine meadows dotted with flowers. The Trek ends with the spectacular moutain view at the end of the trip .
I mean for a real trek feeling you should go with the 2nd options.. the trek from Ghat - Kauripass- Auli.
