Smile Kinner-Kailash Shivling Spire & Parvati Kund Trek

The less-known Kinner-Kailash Shivling Spire Trek in Kinnaur is worth a visit ...

Begins at the banks of the Sutlej River ...through apple-orchards and then some very fine Kinnauri landscapes and people ... the Rock Spire at the end of the steep ascent is about 50 feet high ... route is over very gigantic boulders and enroute Glacier-fed Parvati Kund ... ( a very small glacial tarn )

a rather adventurous hiking trip of 3 days in perenially freezing conditions ....

no official record of altitude available from any source ...
my Garmin Altimeter measured a reading of 17,000 feet + above sea-level at the base of the Rock Spire ...

one fascinating thing we saw was the near endless drop from the Rock Spire ... it were the clouds below us ...we were happy to
"Walk the Clouds" ... and took back some measure of satisfaction in our hearts ....

Lightbulb Route details please

Is this the one they call the Yulla Kanda Shivling??

Do you have photos?? [online?]

Last year, I almost made it for this trek... but absence of route details prevented me. I saw its close ups at a photo shop at Nirmand en route Shrikhand Mahadev trek. [after doing Kinnaur Kailash Parikrama]

Could you give the exact route details, road head, trek route, camp/cave on the way, etc... ? [and, since you happen to have them, your Garmin readings..][which one do you have ? e-trex?]

Have you taken a GPS lat-long-altitude reading at Pin Parvati Pass? I suspect that the map is a bit off in its depiction. My barometric altimeter showed it as 5280 m [it was not set by me, so cant trust the reading...]

Thanks in advance....

Tried it last year, but I wasn't well acclimatised enough...

kinner-kailash-shivling-spire-and-parvati-kund-trek-shivling-kopie.jpgPicture bought from photographer at Reckong Peo

I've read these sources before:
Quote:
"Exploring Kinnaur & Spiti in the Transhimalaya": Another Trek; undertaken by local people in August, ist to Shivling on the shoulder of the Kinner Kailash. The rock pillar is approachable from both Powari and Purbani. With a night spent in the caves above tree line after a hard day's climb, one can go up and than descend to the road the next day.
Let me "translate" this... the locals ascend in one day nearly 2000m till the cave, go up further 1000m till the shivling and than descend 3000m to the road the next day...

Quote:
The Shivlingam is a 79 foot vertical rock located at 4,573-meter-high Kinner Kailash mountain .This is one of the mythical abodes of Lord Shiva. On a clear day, one can see the Shivlingam too which changes colour during the course of the day. People often go on trekking expeditions till here.

Thought I could ascend and redescend these 600m ex pilgrim cave in one day, but the shivling is situated much higher... more than 5000m above sea-level!

Hi avid,

at Yulla kanda isn't a shivling... only a holy lake with Krishna temple!

The Shrikand shivling is an other one...

eTrex Vista C ( Color Display ) is a reliable Garmin Model GPS Receiver ... may not be the best available though ...
Pin-Parbati Pass was showing a read of 5319 metres above sea-level ...have no readings for lat and longitude ...

Does anyone have pictures or weblink for Kalindi Khal Trek in Garhwal Himalayas or the deep reaches of the Valley of Flowers World Heritage Site ...
