Kinnaur - Via Larsa We (5275m) to Spiti

Hi to all Kinnaur-lovers...

a German couple crossed this hidden pass from Kinnaur to Spiti last autumn! My congratulations to Josl and Katharina!
We'll collect some informations and pictures in our German and English spoken forum: http://trekkingforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10679

We've heard that in 2005 a party of Bengali peoples also crossed the Larsa We successful. Are they "IndiaMiker's" or know someone these trekker's?

Let's publish here all available informations too...

I was in Kinnaur in 2003 looking for the different ways to walk into spiti, however the sutlej flash flood ended my trip prematurely.

Looking forward to the details of the trail.

Cheers

Just saw the post. The pair has followed exactly the same book I was following - Exploring Kinnaur Spiti in the Trans Himalayas. thats one of the best books you can buy on this region. And cheap too!

I am glad they made it. I think I need to re-visit the place soon!

Cheers

AndreasW has posted the only info (post # 1) that I have heard of on the net. Again, this route has fresh snow by October (your scheduled month). Its still possible to trek this route, with adequate preparations for snow and ice traverses in October.

In early October, if there is no fresh snowfall, it may turn out to be a normal (but cold) trek.

From what we have gathered, its difficult to find a guide for this particular trek, coz even the locals do not frequent this route.

Guide for the Trail

Yes, one need some extra effort to find guide for the Pass. One of my porter ([Bhim] presently at Janglikh village) for Buran Pass trek used to work at Asrang Village as farm labourer. He is a migrant Nepali worker. Last year (or last to last year i don't remember exactly) he went on the Larsa-we trail as porter with some group. He tells there are few people at Asrang who know the way.

Though it is not an often taken trail, yet required details about Larsa-we pass is manageable. It's just that none of us here have first hand information about it. Those seriously planning for Larsa-we pass just need to park themselves for about a day at Asrang and do some bit of research and hunting in this direction.
