Talking Kinnaur Kailash

Nowadays jeep can go upto Lambar [day 8 in your itin.] I went here last year [2006]

1. Trek Lambar to Charang,

2. next day spend one day at Charang to acclimatize.

3. Charang to Lalanti

4. Lalanti to Pass Base Camp

5. PBC to Chitkul via Charang pass. Trek ends. jeep available.

Don't miss out on acclimatization. Its necessary.

Happy Trekking !!

Unhappy Late Oct is a no no

Upto 10 Oct is OK.

After that risk of fresh snowfall is very much there.

If it is deep snow then difficult to walk unless you have snow and ice eqpt.

Hi AvidTrekker,
I am going for this trek on 15th Aug(leaving from Delhi for Recong Peo). I would like to know in terms of time and distance and difficulty as to how far is the Pass Base Camp from Lalanti; also Pass Base Camp to Charang Pass.
Sorry for me asking for help so late in my trek preparations. Saw your post just today.

Thanks

Detailed write-up by Pijush kanti Mondal here.

Please update the very same thread on the vexatious Inner Line Permit issue. DM says they are not necessary. Army says necessary. Is the Army still insisting on them??

Permit for tour of Kinnaur Kailash

I'd also like to know if I can trek the Kinnaur Kailash tour without a permit, or if I can get a permit easily in Shimla or Rekong Peo. Thank you.

Hi Avid trekker,

Just returned to Mumbai. However couldnt do the Kinner Kailash Parikrama due to bad weather. There was a flash flood at Lambar and also was told that it had snowed at Charang pass. So no updates from me regarding the permit. However the weather gods did prompt me to go to Somang (Nako-Tashiganj-Somang).

Done.. kinner kailash Pilgrimage.. on 16th August.wheather was not good but still climbed to the Shivling with help from friends from kinnaur.
Indian need not to have any permit but they need to inform at DC office about their trip.

Hay Arun

As per your statements I want to clarify something like when you say this "still climbed to the Shivling" means are you refereing to the parikarma or the Shiv Sphire (from Powari or Purbani ) or what do you mean by climbed the shivling.
What sort of information is to be submitted to the DC office will it be written or what and where is to be informed in Shimla or Peo if in written then what would be the contents also I have my Himchalli resident ID so will that work in the either cases.
Request others members also to clarify this and help me out of this.

Kinner Kailash

I too heard that instead of parikrama you can go till the Kinner Kailash peak where 79ft ShivLinga rock formation is there.
I think ArunSharma is talking about that.
I'd be interested in going there and if ArunSharma or anyone else can provide details, it'll be great.
I also heard that locals finish this trek in 2 days staying the night in a big cave.
Details of this will be highly appreciated.

Sphire route

I have gathered some information on both the kora and the shpire
So for sphire the route is from
shongtong - Tangling - Meling Kanda - Pilgrim cave - Shivling sphire

Now the route to the parikarma is from the Thangi - lambar - charang village - lalanti - charang pass - chikul
you can end the parikarma here and the travel by bus to Sangla and from there to Shimla or Upper Kinnaur.
else the parikarma continues as it ends at powari

for the ILP so as Arun has mentioned no need but have to register at DC office in Shimla or Recongpeo.
Some of my friends are doing this in August 5th and I will be getting more info once they do it as I will be going to do both the parikarma and the sphire in late september.

Hi all
Rishi had given this route for Kinnaur shivling sphire
shongtong - Tangling - Meling Kanda - Pilgrim cave - Shivling sphire

where as our guide give us this route.
Reckong peo-dongri-gurpa-shivling-gurpa-tangling-reckong peo.

so which route is right or say which route is better?
and what's the height of shivling sphire?
pls. share information about the same, it will be helpful to us.

thnx
