kedartal in Oct2011

we are planning for kedartal or may be satopanth in coming october 1st week. which is best trek for that time?? is kedartal risky?? i heard that there would be a spider wall crossing & some ice patch on hard rock. is it really risky?? is that portion technical?? any extra gear needed for that portion?? as well as how is the satopanth route?? plz advice me abt the route??

You can do Satopanth in October. It is not that risky as i have heard of Kedartal.Satopanth Tal route is good except you have to cross a long boulder zone before the lake.

we are only 03 people here. any one wants to join?? our fixed departure on 3rd/4th oct 2011.

you have not said anything about your earlier treks. your experience in Himalayas will let anybody tell whether you are capable to do Satopanth or not. but it is very true that if you go through any agency in Joshimath or Mana they will help you to complete the trek very smoothly without taking any hassles of hiring equipments from Kolkata.

Regarding Kedar Taal : It is advisable to do Kedar Taal than Satopanth Taal just because you are 3 in number. I personally recommend to do Kedar Taal as it is much less strenous than Satopanth Taal.

but i heard that that kedartal is a bit risky!! there would be a spider wall crossing- very narrow & slippery!! we have done sandakphu, goechala, chandrashilla,tapovan, kedarnath-vasukital, hemkund.

You have done a lot of trekking in the Himalayas which is enough to face the hurdles of Kedar Taal. The spider wall itself hears to be feary but it is nothing like it in reality. It is a patch of snow and mud in inclination which has to be crossed with light but steady steps. It is not more than 20 feet to cross. And even if you miss your step you will not fall down into anything because there is loose soil just below the scree zone. You will not even have a scratch. I once again tell you that your guide will be there to help you cross the scree zone. Another feary part is crossing a boulder zone. That also is not more tha 200 to 300 feet. Otherwise kedar Tall is quite a adventurous route which will be a lifetime experience.

few days back only i was at kedartaal, rather crossed it to reach Jogin peak summit camp... Kedar taal trek can be an amazing adventurous experience... on the other hand satopanth is equally beautiful, more is one is fortunate to reach swargrohini.... both are wonderful treks and its difficult for a trekker to be biased...
regarding spiderwall, yess it can be a bit scary for the first timers... also more difficult than spiderwall is the mud mountain which is between bhoj kharak and kedarkarak...

as well as in kedartal there is only a viewpoint-i.e-kedartal. but in satopanth route u experience fountain like basudhara, sahasradhara- u see the different glacier-u can go for two another lake-surya & somkund, above of all u see the swargarohini!!!
