I would advice you to avoid kedartal in Oct..
For more details you should contact a local operator..

Last time, when i was in gangotri, I heard reports of dangerous state of the glacier on kedartal route.. New crevasses had been formed last year.. Depending on the weather conditions, you should find fresh snowfall in oct and that might make things dicey..

Better go towards tapovan.. its safe..

If you have not yet decided on a guide, then hire Hikmat singh Vutrola in Gangotri. Ask for him in bharat restaurant (I hope i rememeber the name well) which is just at the entrace of the temple. He is an employee of SASE and his work is to measure the gangotri glacier and contributing glaciers.. He should be a good guide for kedartal.

kedartal in early oct is feasible....u may have snowfall but glaciers dont form at thet time. also being one of the last groups u will find settled path in scree zone.

my kedartal trek pics of may 1st week is in the gallery

http://www.indiamike.com/photopost/s...&ppuser =5854

due to snow conditions we visited and came back. but in oct it is possible to camp at kedartal. but the route itself in very steep uphill and the scree zone is frightening.
