Kathgodam to Bageshwar?

Hi Trekkers,
Is this trip feasible in one day? Arriving in Kathgodam on the Ranikhet Express early in the morning. I have previously taken the bus to Almora then onto Bageshwar the next day. I am struggling to get an idea of the distance from my maps.
What would you advise a small group? Taxi/jeep? Any idea of distance/times/costs by taxi?
Any info appreciated.

Oh yes, you can cover the distance easily in either bus or taxi. But if there is a small group, hire a taxi, it will be convenient and fast, will take about seven hours to reach Bageshwar.

Thanks Shah, is that 1600-1800 rupees cost, or 4-6 pm arrival?

Hi,
I am planning to go to Bageshwar from Kathgodam. I was thinking about stopping at Almora for a day. From this forum, I got the idea that going to Almora from Kathgodam might not be a problem (taxi/shuttle available), however, I am thinking whether any taxi/shared vehicle will redially be available from Almora to Bageshwar and the same from Bageshwar to Kathgodam..
Request your guidance..

Thanks..

It is not difficult to reach Bageshwar from Kathgodam.
On 1 Oct 2011, I left Delhi on Bareilly exp at 06.30 am, Moradabad to Haldwani by bus, Haldwani to Almora by shared alto car and further Almora to Bageshwar again by shared car. I reached Bageshwar from Delhi at 09.00 pm on same day.

Hi,

The Taxi/Shuttle service is main transport in the region, so you will not have any issues regarding the same.

That's the rupee cost.
You'll be better off getting off the train at Haldwani, thst's where all the up-country share-taxis originate. Just find your way to the stand, they all park in a lane next to the bus station (about a km from the RS).

Since I did this stretch recently, let me provide some details:

Haldwani to Almora by shared car: Rs 250 & 3 hours
Almora to Bageshwar by shared car: Rs 200 & 2 hours

Bageshwar to Haldwani by shared Press cars (these are the vehicles used to transport newspaper to Bageshwar. Locally they are referred to as Press cars and are available till noon): Rs 250 & 6 hours.

That was actually a car (Alto), right? They do charge more than jeeps.

That seems cheap for that stretch. I wonder if the regular jeeps are charging more?

Yes, you are right. The journey from Haldwani to Almora and then to Bageshwar was by Alto.

Most of the other cars were upto Almora. At least when I went to the taxi stand, there was not a single car that was coming directly to Haldwani. It was then that I came to know about the 'Press' cars.

"Press cars"(generally Sumos) tend to overload the cars and are more or less time bound so are a bit rash too. I try to avoid them.
