kalindi khal trek - aug 2006
Hi - i would like to trek gomukh - badri thru kalindikhal during aug 2006. I am single. Will I get company ? if anybody done it pl share experience. Is it the mother of all Utteranchal trekking ? .
last year , in November 2006 ( crazy time !!) I trekked solo (with porter , guide from Mana) from Badrinath - mausapani - gustoli and a little further towards Arwa tal ( my original destination ) when I was stopped by a crazy BSF officer.
i found many trekking agents in Joshimath crooks. The crazy cook who was assigned by the trekkking co from Joshimath, left us onthe second day. the bloody cook , a chap from Joshimath , kept on talking through out the night and even he was asking me whether i need poached egg or omlette for break fast. the same man came back when we were camping at the BSF camp and plotted against me with the BSF commandent endangering my life. the officer pulled my ass and my trek was spoiled . then came back to Mana , checked Vasundara falls and left for Delhi ( 2 days after of Delhi Bomb blast , on Diwali day ) to Srinagar ( Kashmir) and stayed in a house boat on Dal lake for 2 days and visited Gul marg. believe me , the food which was home cooked on that Eid night from the attached Muslim family was very tasty . then , from Srinagar to Bangalore , from airport straight to Bus station to Mangalore to Kollur Mukambika Sarawathi temple and the toughest jeep ride to Kudajadri and trekked to Chitra moola and to the cave where Adi Shankara did Tapa and the origin of Sauparnika river. So in 21 days i went from Coimbatore - Calcutta - delhi - failed Arwa tal trek - delhi - Srinagar - gul marg - delhi - bangalore - mangalore - kudajadri - Kollur - Kerala and visited the origin of 2 rivers and shadowed the ancient path of Adi Shankara. In effect one round trip of India .
but there is no place like Utteranchal in the whole world. I mind still wanders in those misty mountains.

I think you got this problem due to INNER LINE PERMIT.
Yes- this is good high altitude trek and should not be done SOLO. Requires some more experience.
There are many high altitude OLD TRAILS..keep up the fire...good to read your post.
DO NOT GO ALONE-solo trekking is somewhat 'exposed' area...you should be bit experience for handling every situation you face.
My experience is that everything looks good when we a trek or climb has succeeded but it requires lot of courage to face failures and above all...if you are alone in this game...you should be very much sure about every decision you make !!

November is not very good time for trekking, unless sometimes happen on trekking while it seems you have not inner line permison at that moment.
Well for this type of cross country trek you have to contact well travel agents who you seems good and hve enough experience to trek high passes, you have to check either they are registerd or are they new etc..
Anyway i hve a friend in germany who is treking kalandi pass in September, they are only 3 person and they need one more for this trek so they can get permits easily, if you like i can forward his adress email rd and telephone number, so you can join with them or they can join you.
All the best...!!

i had obtained innerline permit thru the trekking agent, but unfortunately the guide dropped it at the check post in Mana village.
anyway it was an experience.
many times i have asked myself , why one adventures into trekking / climbing risking one's life in a remote place . is it spiritual ? i do not know. anyway , it is not a mechanical or physical excercise.
For me , it aims at conditioning mind by conquering the limits ( the first test happened in a forest in Kerala years back. while i was trekking in a dense forest near Trivandrum , I climbed a big tree which otherwise i physically can not , due to fear , when a herd of elephants approached my group. imagine , i prayed to God for my life with such a strong faith )
memeber nandadevi - thanks for your help, you can inform my mail id to the Germans. let me see whether i can arrange it. but I consider Germans very much superior to me in physical stamina in those heights.
i have also asked GMVN for Kalindikhal trek.
thanks all

We all learn from experience and sometimes cost is more. DO not mind about what happens....lot of things happen to a traveler , a adventurer..when he comes out from his place. Take it as lesson and do not repeat this in future. Moro over- everything happens for good...who knows !!
You can team-up with pardeep and I am sure you will be having good time. This is good trail and you have good experience to handle it's toughness and roughness. Kalindi peak is just 60-70m from your pass...
