Single person doing KK

Hi,
No one stops a single person from doing the KK trek. However, since you are going to cross one of the highest passes on a trekking trail and you would be on glaciers you would require guide and porters along with you. Also all of you need to obtain permits from DMs office.

Hello fellow trekers,

Sorry for dissapearing without any trace. I had gone for a trek and just returned.

First of all, single person can do the KK, with a permit from DM's office in UK. Be sure to make passes for the whole team i.e the guide and porters. I had no problem at ghastoli but if the officer has changed then he might create some fuss but they let you go eventually. i have no idea for foreign nationals.

From my experience June is a very good time to cross the pass as the crevasses are all closed and it is much easier if one has no problem trekking on snow. I did not have to rope up even once during the trek. Also if there is sufficient snow then it is easy to glisside down the pass and one saves a lot of time and energy.

As for photographs, i will post them in a few days. very sorry for the delay.

I have just finished Dumdar Kandi, Barasu and Lamkhaga pass in one go. It took 24 days. Then I did Mt. Thelu. Please give me some time as i have to scan the slides and edit them and i am dead tired.

cheers

Hi,
You did a great job.
I know you must be tired after long trek with three high passes.
I will be good if you can post the route followed by you and did you require permit from any of the DMs.

KK Trek

Hi,
I am yet to do this trek and may try and finish it during Aug -Sep 07, if time and weather permits and I get some company.
Getting permission can be left to the guide.
Food part also he can take care of.
Seems you want to have a super luxury trek with such a support team. If you know the guide then you can workout the finance part also. Support team at the max with 01 member would be 01 + 02.

Avid is right- do not try in October. My information is that para-military forces do ask for permit and chances of harrasment are there. Better get one. sometimes these civil servants are not in office-what thier staff do is..

1. Write a application with subject of KALINDI KHAL TREKKING EXPEDITION

2. They stamp it and this is your permit.

Just pay some 100/200 ruppess and you are through !!

But Avid says- it is not required- this might be true but this system is confused in remote mountains and we have gone through some delays due to this in KALINDI KHAL and KINNAUR also.

Hi,
Why so much confusion regarding permits. I am yet to come across someone who has done without one.
Permit with one's photo is required and is not a problem. The problem is the weather and more so these days when mansoon is not following a firm schedule.

Hi,
I read about the Kalindi Khal trek on this site and also info about an agency called Shambhu Rawat in Uttarkashi. One of my friends died on that route, just after the pass in July, 2009. I was not part of that trek but I know that they did not acclimatise properly, had one ice axe for the entire group, did not rope up properly, some of the team members were on Diamox from the first camp, and they did not even have a satellite phone. I read warnings about Rawat on this site but it was too late. Thanks for the info on IM though. Wish we d seen it earlier and I would like to say that anyone going on that route should steer clear of Rawat. The guides Rawat sent obviously did not recognise signs of high altitude sickness, and had no emergency plans in place. It was a most shoddy state of affairs. If anyone wants more details, do let me know.
