kalindi khal
we about 10 people want to trek from gangotri to badrinath via kalindi khal in 3rd week /4th week of september'05. We already cross sinla pass in Pithoragad for adi kalish trek. I want to know where september is ok. and about kalindi khal inner line permit is required and where I can get it. Where residence police station permission is required for the same. Pl tell about guide rate on same route and porter rate also and from where we can get all of them. Is IMF permission is required?.

Guide would be about 500 rs per day and porter would be around 200 per day. IMF permission definitely NOT reqd... you are not climbing any peak.

Hi Avidtrekker
I've read the above posts. However, I need detailed information about permits from whom, where costs etc. Please confirm IMF permission not reqd. So best time is Jul-Aug. is it ? I am in Calcutta, so is it possible to get the permits from Calcutta itself or what? Thanks a lot regards joemondal |

Permit not necessary
Inner Line Permit not reqd for kalindi khal pass.
IMF permission is nowhere in the picture. They only approve treks where Government servants can take extra leave without pay. If you are a Govt servant who want leave for trekking, then you will have to apply for IMF permission. |

Hi,
I just joined the group. I have also just done Kalindi pass. The Kalindi pass route does not go to Yammunotri. it took me 13 days from gangotri to Badrinath. Inner line permit is required. It can be obtained at Uttarkashi (if you are doing it from Gangotri) or Joshimath ( if you are doing it from Badrinath). It is preferable to do it from Gangotri. Sept is fine but be prepared for blizzard as between 2o sept and 10 oct there is a change in weather and it always involves a very bad storm lasting for 4-5 days. The weather after that is fantastic. Hope I have been helpful. |

PERMIT is required and for NON-INDIANS, IMF issues the permit.
There are instances of harrasment by para-military. Rules are not clear. |

Hi,
Sure I will post the pictures for the benifit of all. I am a photographer by profession( atleast for now ). As for permit, it is not much of a problem now. The route restrictions hav been relaxed. The folks at the ITBP checkpost at Ghastoli are friendly people, very helpful too. The Intellegence officer at Mana is a bit cranky chap, likes to show who is boss but as long as you have your papers in order tell him to take a hike. Regarding foreigners, well I am not very sure if IMF permit is required now. Trekking agencies take care of all that for them. I hire my own porters as I know them from previous trips, they are my friends and I stay in their villages with them to get to know their life style better. |

Wow! mountaingoat, please post your kalindikhal pics. Hardly any are available on the net. It would be good to see them coming from a professional photographer, especially

Permits for KK
Hi,
Mountain.goat you are correct. The permits are required by all and are given by the DMs office at uttarkashi. KK being a frequently done trek does not pose any problems regarding getting guides and porters. In fact the guide would be able to get the permissions. Keep on day in hand for the job at uttarkashi. mid you PP photos of all the members would be required and so carry them. Also fee has to be given to the forest department. IMF also can help in obtaining the permission, though it is better to approach DMs office. Same procedure what was followed at Pithoragarh/ Dharchula during your trek in Kumaon. |
