One way to do it - Buy Lonely planet book 'Trekking in the Indian Himalayas', this book lot of information on treks, maps, where to get porters, trekking equiment, donkeys for carrying load, etc..
The other way to do it, is to sign up with one of the adventure organisations. Check this website - www.gmvnl.com. It is tourism website for Uttaranchal. They organise group treks. Also, check Himachal tourism development corporation website. You must get lot of information. Or check with these agencies - Capture Treks - Bangalore, or www.getoffyourass.com. They organise group treks to Himalayas in the trekking seasons. They can give you useful info. Or, sign up for a trek organised by Youth hostel association of India. They are good as well. |

Freind does that mean we have to take a package from some tour operator and there is no option of going to manali and hiring porters and guides on daily basis.

Hi,
Well it may be raining at Manali end July but Lahual should be OK. The treks you want to do are very small ones, though both require you to have camping equipment. Only one porter should be OK if you are carrying your own stuff and the porter carries the kitchen items and the tent. Reach Manali and arrange the things. VSK |

Hi A Khanna,
July is not the time to do Beas Kund, as it must be raining cats and dogs in Himachal at that time. The sky will be overcast and u won't get to feel the beauty all around. Still if u insist in doing that, u can hire a guide and porter from Manali itself. It's an easy trek that begins from Dhundi and can be done in a single day (Dhundi - Dhundi). As regards Chandratal, u will get lots of rain again till Rohtang or may be after that as well, if u plan to trek from Batal or Kunzum La. U will have to drive till Batal or Kunzum La in that case. Another option is that u trek from Manali to Chandratal via Hampta PAss. But since it's monsoon time, this also is not advisable. Chandratal is now connected by a motorable road as well, so perhas u can think of a jeep safari too Mail back if u have ne more queries Cheers Lakshit |

Hi,
Though you have asked Lakshit I thought of replying. After rains is the right time to visit any place in the mountains except rain shadow zone like Lahoul, Spiti and Ladakh. But you can not rule out rains anytime and these days the weather has become quite unpredictable. You miss the views due to clouds and it is wet all around which is not good while camping. Any way the treks you have choosen are small so don't think much if you can not shift it to after Monsoon is over. |

Well September 1st week is the best time for Chandratal, the skies will b crystal clear. Just plan for the full moon night and enjoy the moonlight at the banks of the lake. Cheers Lakshit |
