We didnt use crampons or Koflans though we took one pair for the leading person who was opening the route through the Crevasses. But we never required to use it.

Do take ropes/ice axe and crampons also. The glacier keep changing thier shapes every year and the route you would take on glacier would also be diferent. So, you may/may not require these gears.

interested for auden's col

Dear ac100 and DR Kshiteesh,
I am also interested for auden's col from 1st to 15th sepember.I have just talked to an agent in uttarkashi regarding cost of the trek,he says it would be 30,000 per person including camps, gears ,food,a technically perfect guide and portes. This amount is negotiable and would drastically come down if there would be a group of 6 persons.i ahve done few treks in that region, but not yet done BMC.so,i would be happy to join you people who are trained.i have asked for detail route and days.he says this trek will approximately take 14 days.that is even negotiable after seeing the itirenary.waiting for reply to go ahead with the plan.

cheers

Interesting.. I am watching it. I may be heading to the same direction in 2010. I am just not sure why you want to club Kedar tal and Auden's. Kedar tal is not on the route to Auden's col. Both of these treks have different starting point(although both ae near Gangotri) and both of them open into different areas separated by a formidable mountain range.

truly interesting indeed!!

a. yes, there is a route!!!
b. no, one does not require to go to kedar kharak for auden's col

Patangani Dhar connects Kedarkharak to Rudugaira gl.
Want to include kedar tal for its bauty & also nearness!!
thats it!!

@ tilak

a suggested route...

Uttarkashi - Gangotri - Bhojkharak
Bhojkharak - Kedarkharak
Kedarkharak - Kedral tal - Kedarkharak 12
Kedar Kharak - Patangani Dhar - Patangani Dhar camp
Patangani Dhar Camp - Rudugaria Glaceir
Rudugaria Glaceir - Auden's Col BC
Auden's Col BC - Auden's Col - Khatling glaceir
Khatling Glaceir - Waterfall camp
Waterfall camp - Khatling cave - Tamba kund
Chowki - Masar Tal - Masar Top
Masar Top - Mayali pass - Vasuki tal
Vasuki tal - Kedarnath - Gauri kund

this route includes kedar tal hence there are three high pass crossings (patangani dhar pass being one of them)
its up to choice to include kedar tal... or the route can be taken straight gangorti - rudhugaira kharak ... audens col... mayali pas

will be getting the logistics (guide/portes/equipment) details soon. will decide upon the time frame (may/june - aug/sep) after speking with guide...

cheers

the inquiring & learning seems to have taken a backseat over ... 'what!!??-how-come-I-don't-know?' & 'so-it-musnt-b-there'

kidding

From Kedarkharak camping area the Jaonli Ridge and the Patangani Dhar (also known as Patangi Dhar) is to the right.

One crosses over the Patangani Dhar to enter the Rudragaira valley and onwards to Auden's Col.

of course this route is not necessary for going towards auden's col...
but is interesting enough with the picturesque kedartal added (i'll b opting for this route for sure!)...
the route highlights three high crossing over:
a. Patangani Dhar pass (kedar kharak - rudhugaira valley)
b auden's col (rudhugaira - khatling gl)
c mayali pass (khatling - masar tal - vasuki tal)
to kedarnath

hope this + the map (with my poor cartographic skills) clarifies the route
(which, supposedly i have made up on my own!! huh??)
