Hi All,
I am a trekker/mountaineer from Mumbai. I have some years of trekking experience behind me and have also done my BMC from HMI.
I would also be interested in joining any group going to Kalindikhal or Auden's col in July/Aug 09, if time and budget permit.
I found the following site http://www.kalindikhaltrek.com/ on kalindikhal, but they have mentioned the rates in USD.
Request help from any group planning for these 2 treks in the coming months.

kalindi khal seems to be full of permits nd burecratic nonsense... i was thinking of audens con as an alternative. can we do a solo (wthout guides you being a mountaineer) of auden's if yes .. mail me at

Auden should be planned like an expedition just like Kalindi. Auden is lower in height than kalindi but that doesnt lower down the serious need of technical knowhow, negitiating crevasses and snow crafting.

I have done Kalindi in 2007 but still get scared when talks of crossing Auden's surface. Its a tough trek. Dont even think of doing it without a guide.

The climbdown from Auden towards the khatling is more challaneging that crosing the Col itself. Its easy to fancy for kalindi or Auden but you should know yourself if you are prepared for it.

Thanks,
JP

thaks JP,

with proper maps eqipments a person who has done BMC should be able to do it i suppose. As far as the danger / challenge... isnt that what the serious trekkers look for?

"Its easy to fancy for kalindi or Auden but you should know yourself if you are prepared for it."

i totally agree with you on this.
More and more people are fancying this because of the conducted trips where experience technical acumen does not matter to enroll oneself.

what could be the approx cost of doing the auden,s col?

Hello ac100/JP,
Thanks for ur inputs. I have a group which is leaving for Kalindi this weekend. I had to cancel my plans at the last minute as my exams got postponed. They have been planning for Kalindi since 7-8 months and they assure me that it has to done by the book. Without a guide and proper equipment would be impossible. Req also incl a sat phone-a possible result of the disastrous experiences there in 2007-2008. I have also read a lot about Audens col and it also requires proper guides. Both these areas have extensive landslide, crevasse and avalanche areas which have to be negotiated> also fixed rope is required at some points. Hence I strongly feel we need a proper guide, and preferably a group to share equipment and expenses.

@ac100: If you are confident of doing it without a guide or porter, then i dont see much money flowing out of your pocket. You can easily do it within 5000.

For someone like me who goes with all guides and porters, I might end up spending arounf 20k. I spent around 17k for Kalindi.

Thansk,
JP

Hi JP,
A few Q's:
1. How many of you'll were there for Kalindi?
2. How many years ago did you attempt Auden's & Kalindi?
3. For a group of 4-5, how many porters would be reqd? I am confident of managing with a sack of around 25-28 kg. I had done my BMC with a constant load of around 27kg.

Dr. Kshitij,

1. We were 6 people and we hired around 10 porters and a guide. We were not carrying much load on our sacks.

2. The trek was done in 2007

3. Sorry, I ont be able to suggest the number of porters required. The number alays chnage on the run time depending on the load to be carried.

Thansk,
JP
