Info Tso Moriri to Spiti
I'd like to hike from Ladakh to Spiti in September. Is the pass usually still open then? I want to do it interdependently but I'll need to hire ponies because I have to take all my stuff since its a one way trek for me. Anyone know the best place to start in order to find a pony man that knows the way? Maybe Rumtse? Also if anyone would like to join me let me know, I'm flexible on a departure date. If anyone has any information about the route or where to look I'd appreciate it as well because all the maps here suck and trailblazer trekking in Ladakh doesn't cover the route. Also how long does it take if you are fit and well acclimatized (I did Stok Kangri solo in two days from Leh if that helps you judge).
thanks, Micah |

You can start this trek from Tso moriri and you can get ponies from Karzok village, much cheaper if you get ponies coming from Kibber side and returning back. If you are wlll acclimatized then it should take 4-6 days to Kibber. Normally people takes 6 days comfortably but local porters do it in 3-4 days...

But do obtain the permit from Leh before you reach Karzok.

sure, are you in Leh right now or will you be getting here later? As I said I'm going to do it sometime in September. In a few days I'm going to do the cross zanskar trek starting from Lamayuru (anyone interested can also join going to try to do it light fast without ponies). I hope to get back to Leh in the beginning of September.
others thanks for the info. Anymore is welcome especially details about the route or where to find them. |

I am also thinking about taking the same trek (or the Markha valley) sometime in Oct. Dont know yet if the conditions will suite for the same. However would like to get some details, if you end up taking the Tso Moriri to Spiti trek. do you mind if we can share some information here. By reading your thread, iam assuming that you are in Ladakh right now? r'. |

I'm in Ladakh at the moment leaving for Zanskar in 2 days. Any info you want. I did the Markha valley trek as well. Easy to do as a homestay trek no need for guide ponies tent ect. The homestays charge 350 rupees for breakfast dinner and a pack lunch. Available in every village just ask. In october the tent homestay in Nimaling may not be open so that could be a problem.

I have already posted a thread while ago, however havent had many replies yet. Can you please take some time to go over it and provide as much information. My major concern is the weather in Oct and the availability of infrastructure to support my gadgets. Thanks and keep us posted on your next endeavor. r'. |

Probably too late for you but you can stay in any of the villages along the way. I was coming from Lamayuru via chilling. So I went chilling-skiu-Umlung-Nimaling (2 nights to climb a nearby 6000 m peak)-Shang Sumdo. A sleeping bag was really only necessary for Nimaling when I hiked it. But its colder now. You can get not very good sleeping bags in leh for around 800 rupees.

Anyone in Leh interested in going from Rumste to Spiti via Tso Moriri? Could also jeep to Tso Moriri if there is more interest in that. Looking to leave around the 15th of Sept. But I'm flexible. Will probably try to go with just a horseman. I don't want to spend more than 1000 rupees a day and I would prefer much less. Anyone who has more info on the route please post a reply as well. Thanks, Micah.
