Question Indrahar Pass late Sept & (likely) alone

Is Indrahar Pass any good between 21 to 31 Sept? Since I am a lone traveler, I guess I have to arrange with an agent in Mcloed Ganji, when I am arrive there.

If somehow I cannot find any one to partner with in Mcloed Ganji, will those tracking agent still organize a trek for me only?

I have experience travel alone & I'd like to do my first trek in india. Will I've better luck to find trekking partner in LEH? I am interested in 4-5 day max trek.

I don't mind bringing my stove, but can I not bring my tent (to shed weight) Is tent completely necessary in this trek? Can I rent one from the agent?

(I have extensive backpacking experience in my home town)

This pass requires equipment like tents, sleeping bags and mattresses along with cooking stove etc. etc

You also need to have a guide as upper section is somewhat tricky and then descending from top requires care also.

I think you can do this without any problem. Start your climb as early as possible from LAKA JOT. This is your high camp and if you guide decided to stay inside cave [ Lahesh Caves ] this will be a good idea.

hi, when you say indrahar pass do you mean just going up to the pass and back or continuing on to machetar in the chamba valley? Late september should be good weather as the monsoon 'should' have ended by then. However, the last 2 years i have been there it has continued until the end of sept and so you might just have to see how it goes.

i have been up to the pass and back on my own with only a sleeping bag and mat and this is no real problem. There are chai shops and a cave below the pass for sleeping. The other side of the pass i do not know but it seems that you can do it without if you dont mind sleeping in shepherds huts! However, if you are going to do the trek with trekking agent, he can provide a tent.

As for finding trekking partners, this is not so easy. Mcleodganj is a busy little town/village and few of the people are there for trekking. Some definately are, but it's a question of finding them. Leh would appear to be a quite different situation.

Ok i hope this helps. Please PM me if you need more info...K

Are you still looking for partners for this trip. I would like to do a trek from mid-sept to end of sept. Are you set on the Indrahar pass or would you be open to doing something in the Garhwal area?

Here is a really, really good trip report about a tea-house trek in Garhwal - don't need a tent for it.
The Milam glacier teahouse trek - the details

I am looking at going either to Garhwal area or Dharamsala area so would be interested in Indrahar Pass as well, though my preference is for the tea-house trek.

That post belongs to Sept 2007, so presumably that poster has already done the trek.

You can post in the "Trek partners required" Forum here.

yea - thanks, I noticed that only after posting (doh!). I didn't post for partners as I've decided to do something else in my local area instead - but thanks for pointing it out!
