Hi,
2 of us are planning on a Himalayan trek in April 2009 for 7-10 days. We are new at this and neither of us has done this before. Searching online revealed a vast array of options and routes leading to some confusion.I was hoping some of the more experienced members in this forum could answer a couple of questions to help us get started on planning: 1. What are the areas/routes are recommended for April considering the weather? We are looking for a fairly strenuous trek. 2. For a group of only 2 what is the best option in the above area? A private tour guide, travel agent package deal, etc? Contact information to reputable/recommended tour guides and travel agents would be most appreciated. Thanks |

Right now we are open to anything(Sikkim, Himachal,Ladakh, etc). The advantage of being a first timer is that you haven't seen anything yet
. We are willing to travel where required. The only real restriction is that it has to be in April. |

YHAI is a good option for beginners - The only downside is the group size (I see that you are looking at doing it on your own).
In anycase check them out. YHAI is ideal for first time trekkers - Very well organized, they take of everything from food to acco etc, extrememly safe. Check with your local YHAI - you could check their website too. They usually have couple of 'beginner' treks. Real good value for money. |

Thanks for the suggestion. I will look them up.
If we identify which area, I think I will have no trouble arranging the rest. That is what I am looking for some guidance on. What areas are good in April? Has anyone trekked in April? |

Some of the YHAI Himalayan treks start from May 1. The weather has been very unpredictable these years. We tried trekking through Triund and Indrahar Pass in May which is a normal trekking season but the Indrahar pass was not open due to excessive snow!

You meant 2010, right?
Also, a lot depends on your fitness levels etc... Looking for a fairly strenuous trek is good, but I would personally not recommend it if you are just starting. Also, of the ones you have looked at on the net, which ones did you like the most. May be if you mention those, people here will help you filter down to one based on their experiences etc. Best of Luck.!!
